The 2005 Essential Mix of the year
Pete Tongs Radio1 Essential Mix, which is listened to via live radio broadcast both online and offline in the wee hours of Saturday night / Sunday morning, and then streamed and downloaded by thousands online at later stages is, without a doubt, the most widely spread weekly dance music show in current times.
This makes for one hell of a massively influential 2-hour slot. The short list in the 2005 Essential Mix of the year is a varied one, and features the following finalists.
Essential Mix of the year finalists:
- King Unique
- Soulwax
- Krafty Kuts
- Tom Middleton (Star Wars Special)
- Sasha (Live on the Maven, Maida Vale Studio)
- Deep Dish
- Radio1's Decade in Ibiza at Space
- Pendulum
- Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso
- Matt Hardwick
The winning mix will be announced in December and played out on NYE. You can vote below, or let us know what your favourite emix was this year in the forums.

None of them really struck me as interesting. Pendulum's sticks out the most to me, and I'd probably choose it over the rest, but there hasn't really been an EM this year that's truly grabbed me.
really enjoyed Tom Middleton's, but A&I was great too.
Of those, Sasha's was the best. I really liked MANDY's and Digweed's GG set..
Swedish House Mafia for Me Angello & Ingrosso the two fake Italians! Mix was amazing

WTF?! That list really sucks.
The best Essential Mixes this year were Mandy, Tom Neville, and Hawtin/Villalobos.
yes, I also agree that it is a pretty poor list. I liked the Tania Vulcano Essential mix also, MANDY, and Tom Neville was also great.

| Originally posted by Trance Nutter Just a pity it was boring as bat shit. For me, Digweed's GKGG was the best, but thats not in the list, nor is G&D's WMC set unfortunately. Am still waiting to get Pendulum's set off a mate cos I'm sure it'll pants most of the others that are on the list. |

I've touched Clovis more than any of you.
I need to hop on ++ and get the EM's so I can take a vote.
Can't think of any that were exceptionally good for this year.
I would have to say Digweed's set from God'skitchen is the best I've heard so far.

King Unique from that list, although Paul Woolford's was my fave this year.
Pendulum was the only em to really grab me this year, so def that one for me.
Glad to see Tom Middleton on it, definitely my favourite this year. The rest is rather disappointing, with the exception of Laurent Garnier from Space. Then again we all know that the "prog" massive will come out in full force and give Sasha yet another EM of the year-award anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Either Pendulum, Sasha, or Angello & Ingrosso. Can't really decide which though.
They need to let people vote for ANY em in the year, not just a shortlist.
where tha fuck is M.a.n.d.y.'s essential in final ten?
hmmm... any ideas?
well, i've heard very few of them this year, but by tracklists, these look yummy
