Question Writing tracks in MIDI and typing in notes

Really weird question... does ne1 know of a program that can be used to type music???? in other words, instead of using mouse to click the notes, I could type it in?

like:

4/4 C D E F F F E C | A# B B A B E#

?

Or using QWERTY keyboard to play the notes? Laid out either in musical format, such as keys "asdfghjkl" are white keys and "we tyu op" are black keys or just used to type in the sounds...

musical layout:

_W_E__T_Y_U__I_0_
A S DF G H JK L

ok, thanks.

You can configure cubase and logic to do this. I know as ive done it before about 5 yrs ago....just dont ask me how as I can barely remember last week at the moment- let alone yrs ago.

Just about what I was to say, this is a standard feature in so called tracker software

i don't know how to assign the computer keyboard as a midi controller in cubase or logic, but i know that in Ableton Live you can do it like that. the home row are the white keys, and certain QWERTY keys are the black ones.

FL Studio!

But really, a midi controller only costs a few bucks.. good investment.

Fruity can do this, and also, you can get MIDI-ox and use that to setup your keyboard for playing notes... But a 2 octave usb keyboard is like 100$ these days.... It's REEEEALLY worth it!
