Ear plug lodged in ear! Can't sleep.

Well, my nightmare finally came true and I think a piece of my "mack's" ear plug is lodged in my ear. When I took it out, my ear canal decided to close a little, reducing all frequencies above 1kHz and below 500Hz (did a sound check). Yeah, something is stuck inside. One can only imagine the horror on my face when I listened to one of my tracks and not only didn't it sound muffled in my now-retarded ear, but it caused a high pitched sine wave to emit (known as auto-acoustic emission).

This...REALLY....*F*U*C*K*I*N*G*......SUCKS!!!!!!!!

So I thought I'd share it to the trance world while I'm up ALL night long waiting for the next morning so that an ENT specialist can call me back, because I'm too afriad to go into the emergency room right now...I might end up paying way too much money. =(

Anyone have any similar stories with happy endings so I can sleep and not kill myself?

Good point, Xpress. EAR! I just think I'll save if I wait until a normal doctor sees me and not pay all the fines. I called their 24-hour message line and it says in case of accidental insertion of earplug, waiting a few days isn't going to hurt. It's just that I want it out now. I'm a little more calm now though. Sedating emotions with Reeses peanut butter cups.

That sucks about your ear, punisher! Is your ear drum totally gone? Or did you get help? I've been to some Freaknights a while ago when I lived in Seattle.

I'd still reccomend getting help as soon as possible..

If not, id go get insured right now

Incidentally, I'm meeting up with a guy tomorrow afternoon to get health insurance. If the emergency room is something that just costs hundreds of dollars, I'd be willing to give it a go. But I don't want to pay more than that.

Doesnt insurance cover emergencies?

I think insurance covers it. But I don't have it yet, or a doctor. So the lethargic chick on the phone says to wait until tomorrow. Here's part of the conversatin we had,

Operator: "Who's your doctor?"
Me: "I don't have a doctor"
Operator: "Oh, you need a doctor"
Me: "Yeah, of course I need a doctor. I have an ear problem. Can I get a doctor???"
Operator: "You can be a new patient. They'll call you in the mornin"

What are they, stupid?

I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be a nightmare...I hate US healthcare.

If you had the same problem here in England you'd just just pop down to casulty and get it sorted no problem. Sure you might have to wait around a while but it wouldn't cost you a penny.

We were pretty damn close to the stacks, too. No plugs. Fortunately, my hearing is fine... just as good as it has always been. Doctor told me that it didn't even appear that my drum blew because of the show. Apparently, I had a small ear infection, anyway. (I'd been sick for about two weeks leading up to the event.)

Everything's cool with it, now. I car hear just fine.

after seeing It's all gone Pete Tong i'm really worried about my ears too i'm one of those ppl that love to dance infront of the huge speakers and i have never worn ear plugs and now i catch myself saying "what?" a lot ....... best of luck to you man hopefully u can dislodge anything that's in there without any damage

I wouldn't even step into a club without earplugs on.

Emergency room visits usually go for around 500 bucks.

ya srsly. and if in the event i forget them, i put a piece of napkin in my ears and stay away from the speakers.

It's All Gone Pete Tong sort of scared me too lol. My left ear is starting to get a little shitted on and it's quite obvious to me. When i'm out at a club I have to have people talk into my right ear because it sounds way too muffled in the left

Anyway, bought some earplugs last week...going to start using them from now on.

So this was new to me...

It turns out that when I took out my ear plugs, it created some sort of pop and suction and fluids in my inner ear didn't fully drain(from being sick / congested / having post-nasal-drip, as the doctor told me), leaving my right ear partially "drowned" to sound coming in. It took about 24 hours for my hearing to get back to normal, as I also got a shot in the ass (poor left cheek) and am on anti-biotics for a week.

But I can hear now! For 5 minutes though, I had no idea how to interpret life with one partially deaf ear. Thank god it's back to normal.

Case closed!

Glad it worked out fine.

I remember at a show this summer my gf, my friend and I were in the front row almost right next to the speakers dancing for 7 hours. After the show we walked to dunkin donuts and we were pissing everyone off because we were yelling at eachother. My ears were ringing and the sound was muffled for almost 2 weeks. i was scared by the time the 2nd weeks started but it got better after that so... yeah

i lost partial hearing in one ear before from blasting the music in my car all the time. im more consious about it, and no longer do it just for the hell of it. only if im out in the night doing something. on the commute to and from school and work, sometimes.
