Cool mindtrickery

At first it may amaze you

http://yuj.name/ms.html

actually, the "secret" of it is quite simple. the first to tell it here gets a virtual cookie

Its a mathematical trick, they revolve symbols around each time you click "one more time" to make the illusion that its guessing it each time right. When in reality every possible answer shares the same symbol.

you are correct... let's leave the details undisclosed for a little bit

Posted by Lepanto on Nov-18-2005 21:59:

it doesn't work.

the whole page? you need javascript to be turned on.

or the answer? (remember, that the table is dynamic, and with each refresh the same number gets assigned a different symbol)

it cannot get it wrong, it means that you're calculating it incorrectly

The details have been open for a couple of years now...

why not?

Meh. The only possible outcomes have in common that their digits add up to 9. Check them out, they all got the same symbol.

well, the details have been open since the invention of math, but that's not what i was talking about. if you saw this before - fine

because it is a stone-cold math, and the computer calculations are always 100% correct (in this case).
