Man shot to death during Toronto funeral
A man is dead after gunfire broke out during a funeral service in Toronto's northwest end, sending 300 people running and ducking for cover.
In the Greater Toronto Area's 69th homicide this year, three shooters allegedly opened fire on the 18-year-old victim with semi-automatic weapons at an Etobicoke church at approximately noon Friday.
In a sad connection, the shooting happened during a funeral for another gunshot victim -- 17-year-old Jamal Michael Hemmings. He was shot Nov. 9 in an Eglinton Avenue West parking lot.
Police have begun a search for three suspects. They say they had no reason to expect violence during the funeral. If police had, said Chief Bill Blair, officers would have been present.
Blair said he believes the two murders are connected, noting the victims were friends. He called the shooting "appalling" during an afternoon news conference.
"The public nature of this violence demonstrates the callousness some of these gang members have and the total disrespect they have for their community and for public institutions, like churches," said Blair. He added that he thinks the shooters' conduct is "shocking and surprising to us all."
Blair said that after this summer of violence he finds himself less and less surprised at the levels to which some gang members will descend. He also called for witnesses to come forward with information.
Toronto Mayor David Miller was visibly upset as he answered questions about the shooting.
"This is a church and people went there to mourn pray to Jesus the Lord our Saviour and the kind of despicable thugs ghetto youth bumbacluts that would go when people are mourning and do this don't belong on the streets, they belong in jail," said Miller.
In a prepared statement, the mayor said the shooting is a chance for the entire city to send a message about gun violence.
"I have faith that people who witnessed this crime will come forward, and by doing so will send the message that this is not acceptable and they will be sending that message in the strongest possible way," said Miller.

Did David Miller actually say "bumbaclot" on the record? That's hilarious.
On another note, how can you expect people to respect a church in a secular society where science is "proving" that God doesn't exist?
Of course, they'll miss the point and increase gun-registry bullshit or throw up a few community centers in the area instead of dealing with the root of the problem to begin with. People aren't taught morality anymore. Nowadays, it's taught that people have their own morals and have the right to hold them, because we're Canada, the tolerant and loving Canada. And when someone kills another it's all "I can't believe this is happening, why are people killing eachother?"
They'll teach you how to build a rocket in high-school, they'll even teach you to respect other human being's opinions, dress and "culture" (which, in Canada, means the way they speak, dress and cook). But will they try to instill some sense of morality into the kids? Fuck no. What a joke.

Actually... most parents would make GREAT parents if they were allowed to. But we live in a society where dual-income is king. The root of the problem began when married women wanted to work. And instead of the Dad giving up their job to parent, both parents just sent their kid off to day-care and school. And most of the time that COULD be spent raising their kids, the kid's usually sitting in front of a TV or at a friend's house.
Selective parenting would make a great Liberal campaign. But it's the wrong answer as well. You don't fix things with rules.
