Do you listen to anything else but dance?

My housemates rip me apart for my continual hammering of dance music, I rarely if ever listen to other forms of music. Are many of you like that or am I just a close-minded geek?

Blame my mum, she's the one who gave me a rave tape and a stereo when I was 6

Posted by Fearless One on Nov-19-2005 14:19:

does your mum listen to rave?

Posted by Lover Boy on Nov-19-2005 14:27:

She did in the early 90's, now it's whatever I listen to, House, Prog, Trance. It's weird having dance on and having your mum ask you to burn her a copy

if i listened to 100% EDM all the time i'd go insane.

I listen to everything from Led Zepplin, Queen, Oasis, right thro to Classical, Ambient, pretty much everything thats out there minus Rap, DnB, RnB, HipHop (not being racist but i generally dislike 'black' music).

Posted by CAKE on Nov-19-2005 15:52:

yeah i embrase all types of music but since i love electronic music so much i catch myself not really careing about the lyrics in a song but the flow and the beat

Posted by basd on Nov-19-2005 16:24:

Ditto.

I listen to everything; from Schubert & Schumann to Wu-Tang to flamenco to Conway Twitty.

Of course I listen to more than dance music.

Posted by zoric on Nov-19-2005 16:50:

I would go nuts if I didn't listen to anything else, But I do listen to EDM for the most of my time..

I like two other genre's too, Alternative Rock and old rap between 92-96.

Posted by Aiwendil on Nov-19-2005 16:52:

Sure............in fact i'm listening to my favorite non-dance song right now.

Cuz i'm...lookin' for a reason....rooooaming through the night to find my place in this world....my place in this woooooooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrld!

PRAISE JESUS!

i listen to almost everything. outside of EDM, i also enjoy RnB, hip hop, rap, pop, instrumentals, classical, ambient etc. the only one i can't really stand is country.

right now i'm really taking a liking to old school slow jams again.

Posted by Zombie0915 on Nov-19-2005 16:57:

I listen to other stuff, I only collect EDM though, the rest I just listen to through the radio or a webcast or something. The bulk of my listening time is EDM though

Posted by swisstoni_uk on Nov-19-2005 17:04:

Normally its just prog/house/trance coming through my speakers, but there are occasions when i turn to other genres. Coldplay caught my attention a long while ago and im a huge fan of Sarah McLachlan's original material before its dance reworkings

Posted by Numidia on Nov-19-2005 17:06:

just trance.... although I did enjoy X&Y

Posted by MKII on Nov-19-2005 17:08:

you cant just have one genre of music, thats just dumb. diversity is essential

Don't get me wrong, I listen to bands like Pink Floyd & Coldplay, i'm a huge fan of Ennio Morricone's work with Sergio Leone aswell as my guilty secret of loving 80's trash .

I just don't get that buzz off any other sort of music. I think the secret lies in the repetitive nature in EDM, the way it's structured giving you another piece of the puzzle every 32 beats (depending on genre).

As one of my mates said to me, if Mozart was alive in this day and age, would he really just be playing the piano when the synthesiszer is around?

He probably would just like the thousands of other people around the world who play the piano and either have no idea what a synthesizer is or would prefer to make their own music instead of letting a computer do it for them.

90% Of the time i listen to EDM. In my cd changer in the car is all EDM CDs. When i start my day at work, 1st thing i do is put on DI and listen to it till the time i leave. I was always a big Metal fan in high school but i guess i gotta be in the mood to put on a Metallica album. IMO, Rock Music in gerneral has declined since 1996. There are few bands out there who are putting out music worth listening to like Foo Fighters and Coldplay but a majority of the bands today are crap.

So yea i guess i listen to dance all the time

To answer your second question: Yes, you are close-minded.

Abit derogatory considering you offer no evidence to why I am. Discussion please, not off the cuff commentary.
