-- So I ended a set with a Ween song last night...

So I ended a set with a Ween song last night...

..."Monique the Freak." I ended my set with the Brad Carter Remix of Red Carper - Alright, and as soon as it was finished, I dropped "Monique..." as a kind of "Nights over, thanks for having me, this is your exit music" kind of track... And it turned out so damn well that I ended up playing my first ever, 3 track "Encore."

It was just a house party, but it's one I play fairly regularly, and generally there's a great crowd, dancin' their asses off, but last night was out of hand (I dropped Group Therapy - My Own Worst Enemy and during the break, the entire room started to pound out the percussion on whatever surface they could, the overwhelming noise of people just tapping out the bongo/conga part during the breakdown drowned out the vocals!)... I've said it before, but I'll say it again, this is why I love house music, because while to a certain extent I think with Trance you can entertain a certain crowd, but with house, I can take a room full of central Wisco college kids and MAKE them shake their asses for 4 hours straight, and still leaving them begging for more... I've played to rooms where people were getting down before, but last night was fuckin' electric...

It was an interesting experience to say the least... Ween rules...

Non-EDM crowds will definetly react better to house rather than trance just because it's more "danceable" music. A lot of people find trance annoying and it's probably because a lot of it is but house you can always be sure to get a few people dancing to it.

Agreed... And House, IMO, is a LOT more fun to spin... I just find there's a lot more I can do with it...

Which isn't to say that my mixing wasn't spot on (For the majority of the night) as well...

ah, Lotta Lovin' *and* The Drill were both good choices though... good thing i didn't have a DJ Sammy song as #4

MSN?

Yeah, I pass around my monthly mixes and stuff at school and everyone seems to like House better than other genres. I'm starting to love it more and more too.. I got into DJing EDM because of Trance, but I've been playing more and more House lately!

Yeah... you love that guy... it was a real risk playing anything out of your case...

Yeah house is a much more widely accepted genre vs trance. I had a gig an art gallery yesterday, the guy wanted me to play mostly trip hop and that weird club music you hear on the Matrix and Blade (who the fuck plays that stuff for real anyway?)

So yeah, I was playing some Everything But The Girl, Portishead, Massive Attack, Sneaker Pimps, played some stuff from Airdrawndagger.

It was great! The booze was flowing (open bar ftw!) and I was like "eh fuck it!" and started to play some house. About an hour and a half, and not very "friendly" house either. Like Trentemoller, Eric Prydz, real clubby stuff...the place started to go off lol. Has anyone seen a room full of drunk fake art people dance? It's brilliant!

I ended my set with Jamiroquai - Canned Heat and people were dancing everywhere hahahaha. Then I decided to play just one more...it was Shapeshifters - Back 2 Basics, then I blew a subwoofer and decided it was time to leave

That's right along the lines of what I was playing all night... Along with stuff everyone from Ewan Pearson, Bush II Bush, Luke Dzierzek vs. BT, Macca, Sucker DJ's, King Roc, Mylo et al.

Kind of all over the place at times, but lots of fun, and a LOT of Pryda... and some Cosmos...

Make A Move On Me
hot !

I've also stepped down from trance to house/groove/electro. Just so more enjoyable to spin imo, and is widely accepted... (i play at home/ on spamm parties though so it doesn't matter.)
