Bull****...

I know that there are very negative opinions of the edm scene in america but I'm beginning to get EXTREMELY frusturated with the masses view of our scene, I just saw a commercial, not quoting directly but almost accurately, father to son..."jack and the beanstalk, a talking harp? ha! jack must have been on drugs? so tell me son, have you ever been to a rave?" WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT??? along with the damn "bah bah blacksheep" commercial. I'm sure the majority of us in America have seen this bullshit! I'm speachless right now and soooo angry that now it's not even just "watch out for those Ecstacy parties" but saying, "drugs...those are done at raves" FUCK AMERICA! I know that the government has been going after our edm scene for some time now but that is ridiculous, I don't see them putting out commercials such as..." Son, just because all the other kids at the Bone Thugs show were smoking weed doesn't mean you should". If this post seems a bit rushed and not very well thought out I hope you can realize how pissed off I am at the moment, furthermore, I'm interested to know if other countries governments are trying to discriminate your music scene in a similar manner?

You obviously don't watch TV often enough, do you? I see those exact commercials with parents talking to their kids about pot all the time.

Oh, and welcome to Pop culture.

People ... uhh ... err ... do take drugs at raves.

Posted by heine206to615 on Nov-23-2005 07:25:

I know they do and I have participated in such....I guess it's just been so long and my state of mind towards the situation has changed I'm offended by such a commerical...and yes I watch t.v. a decent amount but I don't tend to see these commercials all too often. This one just struck a bad chord with me...Having not been involved with any drugs in the past couple years I can look at our scene and see there is a drug problem but I guess my frusturation is, why isn't there emphasis on any other music scene's drug problems? (I guess we're just an easy target)

Because the other scenes are part of the Pop scene. People are well-aware of these problems, but major record labels will always continue to push the items that are selling, no matter how bad the scene is for those certain genres.

ever been to NYC? LA? Chicago? Miami?

NYC has fallen off a bit but surely out did any club in any country in the 1990s. With clubs like Twilo, Tunnel, Limelight, Shelter and tons of other lesser known spots.

Stop caring what other people think of what you do with your free time.

Uhh... if the shoe fits...? I don't go to raves or massives for the very same reason. Tweakers all around you = the ultimate vibe killer.

See, the problem with your statement is that the negative ideas that mainstream culture in America has of the EDM scene causes the scene itself to suffer. If there's nothing but media-inspired hyperbole out there about how EVERYONE is on drugs, sexually assualting women, and committing acts of violence (these were some of the statements made following that Utah rave raid in August), no one cares about the government shutting down clubs and raves. Eventually, that will lead to you not being able to do what you want with your free time.

No it doesn't.

You're just not trying hard enough.

Explain.

My point was that portions of the US government would like to see raves outlawed. By presenting raves in a negative light to the general public, this is more likely. From what I've heard, I missed out on some great clubs in New York because they have been shut down by the government because of the drug connotation (Twilo, Limelight, Exit). I personally don't feel like getting arrested for going to a party to enjoy the music that I enjoy. I guess if my reluctance to get a criminal record for listening to music means I'm not trying hard enough, you're right.

Posted by s3nate on Nov-24-2005 05:20:

I don't understand what their problem is. Yes, people do drugs at raves. People do drugs at rap parties. People do drugs at home, work, friends house, outside. Nothing is going to stop the drug sence. People just got to be more responsible when they do take drugs at raves and stop O.D.'ing. At least EDM doesn't really promote any of the things rap/hip-hop does.

Sometimes you gotta roll the hard six.

No one said partaking in underground, clandestine illegal subcultures was going to be all safe and nice. If you don't like the risk, go back to your movie theatres and shopping malls and carnival rides. This is counter-culture. What did you think you were getting into? Highschool proms with better music?

Guys, watch that video. its 45mins or so. its got peter jennings in it and it basically gives the truth and responsible usage of MDMA. it also talks about the sideffects (or lack thereof) of the chemical, its history, background, and reason for being outlawed (although grossly flawed and unsupported).

Posted by Rockabye on Nov-25-2005 01:05:

drugs were taken by human beings since the beginning of time and will ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS been taken by them.

people take drugs for so many different reasons, it's just not possible to put them all together.

and drugs are taken in any social group. of course ravers do drugs and they always have to play the black sheep.

but what about the super models, singers, actors or politicians who take drugs too?

The Beatles took a lot of drugs and possibly written most of their songs on a higher state of mind but today people say they are the biggest band in the history.

Or take Robbie Williams for example. The same girls that cheer for this guy who took drugs for a long time look at you like you are a heroin junkie if you say that you are going to an edm party.

And oh...don't forget that alcohol is a drug too. I always find it funny if a person whose drinking so much alcohol that he couldn't go straight anymore always says that drugs are bad and only losers take them
