please critique this!

Well, my friend writes techno music. I have seen him progress over a couple of years, and I believe he has become very talented. We don't listen to techno music at all because it usually lacks the progression we like to hear in music.

ANYWAYS... long story short, I would kinda be thrilled if some other techno artists checked out his music and replied with some feedback. You can find it at:

We've always thought that his techno has a pretty unique sound. I've browsed around plenty on music.download.com, and have only found your typical rave, trance, expirimental, etc... techno. I'd like to know if he REALLY does sound that unique because I'm sure you guys listen to way more techno than we do.

Good chillout? Go pick up a Cafe Del Mar cd or something, it would give you a good idea. You have a lot to learn, my friend--using synthesizers doesn't mean that you make "techno". Most of us here don't even listen to Techno music--this is TRANCEaddict.

Sorry for being a dick but don't stereotype us as being Techno fans--I surely am not one. And don't stereotype all electronic music as being Techno, because it isn't.

Dont use the name of the site to alienate other genre's of music, although there is a majority of trance fans here, that doesnt mean there arent people here that dont listen to other stuff. Im sure there are a significant amount of people that are on these boards that dont like trance at all. Some prefer techno some house some prog, whatever the case maybe.

But on the other hand, I agree that not every thing that falls in the realm of EDM is considered techno. So before you start generalizing all forms of EDM into the techno genre, you should do alittle research - but Im sure the case is simply boredom and making tracks so you have something to show off to your friends. One does not begin producing within a scene of which you have no concept of without some kind of hidden or personal agenda.

VLAD........i love that reply listen to him JOSHO he is spot on dont just jump straight in there thinking all styles of EDM is Techno it realy is not.

DO a bit of research you will soon find out the real meaning of techno...........dont produce tracks cause you maybe bored or something like that set yourself goals or even targets.

but remember you have to have 100% passion for anytype of music to be good at it im 100% into TRANCE I dont even bother with the other types of music (YET!).I want to get as good as i possible can with TRANCE before i move forwards.

I know, and I didn't say nobody here listens to Techno or other genres of EDM (although I can see that it seemed like I said that). I was just pointing out that the majority of people here probably listen to Trance more than anything else. Even if that isn't the case, this is still TRANCEaddict, and although he was wrong about it being techno in the first place, he should have at least gone to a more techno-oriented board. It's called generalization and I don't like it.

Ok. So my friend's stuff isn't techno. Could I still get some feedback on the music though? Actually, the stuff he wrote was more of a layout for a potential 4-piece band we're thinking about putting together.

Is there anything at all you guys think we did right? I'm sure you have input on things we could do.

I guess if it isn't your style of music at all, I'd like to hear that. And if you think it sucks super bad, then could I hear why it sucks so bad?

Oh man, musically it's great. The chord progressions and melodies are very good. It's just the synths used to create it sucked and I was upset that you called it "techno".

Seriously though, it'd be cool to hear a band performing these!

Cool. Thanks for the comment. Yes, I do admit the quality isn't that great.
We used... (hold your breath) Fruity Loops to make this music. But you should hear it before we apply filters and tweak with various things; it sounds even worse.
