-- batch wav to mp3 conversion

batch wav to mp3 conversion

ugh, I can't find a program to batch convert WAV's into mp3's without fucking them up. Everything I try put a slight skip at the end so when I burn a CD there's an ever so slight break in the music between tracks. Anyone have an ideas? I had some program called "wav to mp3 converter" and I just reformatted and I can't find it anywhere.

Import all the .wavs and right click > convert to mp3?

It works for me atleast.

[EDIT]
I need reading lessios, asked for batch job.. Hmm, I'll look around for you

The slight skip you hear is a problem with the mp3 specification. Mp3 files are stored in frames (each frame is a fraction of a second), if the length of the song isnt exactly the length of a multiple of the frame length a small silence will be added to the end of the file to pad the last frame.

The latest versions of the lame encoder adds a special tag to tell the player where the song ACTUALLY ends, and thus removes the added gap. Not many mp3 decoders can read this tag, obviously either your cd burning program cant, or you arent using a recent version of lame.

Many other formats support "gapless" playback, I prefer OGG Vorbis over anything else. FLAC is also good if you want lossless compression.

ah awsome dude, that's the kinda tip i was looking for, i was beginning to think it had something to do with the codec. I know exactly what you're saying, i'd use other formats, but i want to use mp3 to put online for people to dowload, not everyone's familiar with other formats, thanks man

You could use one long mp3 file and a cue file to add track makers, I know that nero burns cue files just fine

Nero express will convert whole folders of wavs to mp3s at once

I used to use iTunes too for converting my mixes to MP3 but after reading around online I discovered that while iTunes is a fast encoder, the resulting sound is really shitty. If you care about quality try to stick with a LAME based encoder. There are countless software tools based on LAME for Win/Mac/Linux/BSD/etc.

But if you don't care about sound quality just stick with iTunes -- and find a new hobbie.

explain these cue file thingies to me

A cue file is a text file that references track markings, this allows you to have one long mp3, but still be able to burn a cd with the track markings there.

Example:

code:
PERFORMER "Various Artists" TITLE "Clubbers Guide 2005" FILE "ClubbersGuide.mp3" MP3 TRACK 01 AUDIO TITLE "Object Of My Desire" PERFORMER "Dana Rayne" INDEX 01 00:00:00 TRACK 02 AUDIO TITLE "TSunrise (BCD Remix)" PERFORMER "Angel City" INDEX 01 03:36:23 TRACK 03 AUDIO TITLE "Winter" PERFORMER "DT8 Project Feat Andrea Britton" INDEX 01 07:23:46 TRACK 04 AUDIO TITLE "Attention! (F&W Remix)" PERFORMER "Commander Tom" INDEX 01 11:57:68 TRACK 05 AUDIO TITLE "Love U More (Public Domain's Stadium Mix)" PERFORMER "Public Domain" INDEX 01 15:45:29 TRACK 06 AUDIO TITLE "Back For Me (Quadrasonic Remix)" PERFORMER "Candee Jay" INDEX 01 19:52:70 TRACK 07 AUDIO TITLE "Still The One (Dougal & Styles Remix)" PERFORMER "United In Dance Feat Lisa Marie" INDEX 01 23:26:74 TRACK 08 AUDIO TITLE "Loveshy 2004 (Lee S Remix)" PERFORMER "Kristine Blond" INDEX 01 28:21:22 TRACK 09 AUDIO TITLE "Forgiven 2005 (Rezonance Q Remix)" PERFORMER "Space Brothers" INDEX 01 32:25:28 TRACK 10 AUDIO TITLE "Intruder" PERFORMER "Armin Vs M.I.K.E."
