Forum size, and members

I am obviously very bored at times, and i was checking over the first members, numbers 3-100, etc, and the first members have seemed to have long gone.

Do memebers get deleted if they are inactive for a certain amount of time, if not, wouldnt this mean that member names are being used up, and not available for other members.

Also i am glad to hear about the new server, but will any old threads ever be deleted?

I am just curious.

Thats a good 1 here. I was thinking about the same thing. There are almost 7000 members on this forum and I think that only 1/4 of the peeps are really active on the forum. But its probably a lot of work to selct them all out.

i think you have a good point here!! but some people become active again after some time (in the holland section, Akira has "come back" after a long time of absens.. )
but in some cases, with very lon inactivity, accounts should be deleted, but i don't know swampers view on this..

Idea

idea: after 6 months of inactivity.. an email gets sent autmatically to the user, if the user still wants his/her ta name they have to just reply to the email... if not ignore it.. or sumthin

Well the first members of this forum, are no longer around, well most of them, but that is a good ideat tu_face, give them say 2 weeks to reply.

There is a technical issue in deleting all members: The threads they have participated in will then have entries with no poster! Of course this could be overcome by simply assigning old posts to some imaginary user (say GhostAddict), but then there will be threads with GhostAddict talking to him/herself generally obscuring the point of the original excahnge of views.
Is the problem of missing names really that big?

Hi

I did a mass deletion of about 800 ppl back a few months ago... I'll delete some more within the next few months...

I don't like to prune posts unless necessary - there's really no extra overhead due to them being there anyways.
