Sander K at Icon, Orlando REVIEW!!!

just so Mario knows, as requested I got pics of his cd book

But, he didnt play Kiss, I was waiting so I could get it on vid for ya. He told us he was going to play it, and right when I think he was about to play it, they told him no more, oh well.

Awesome, awesome night. Ive never seen Icon so packed, we got there a little after 11pm and they were still honoring the before 11 admission which was really cool. The opener, Carlos Mendenez, I believe his name was, a Zinc resident, was playing some kick ass tribal, really got everyone hyped for Sander. We were waiting for him upstairs, and of course got our pics with him, and talked it up. He went on around 12:30 and played quite a few new tunes, all sounded funky and kick ass as always. tunes so far: (I will update as ppl post them)

lower eastside - swordfight
mr roboto - (some new remix)
tracking treasure down
Mashtronic - Beloved (digweed played this at global gathering)
Extra Stop (Klaus Lindblad Und Hendrick Schwarz)/Must (track 5 on Burridge's Everybody cd)
Jon Gurd - Lemon Sherbert(Original)(track 5 on sander's everybody on tour album)

ugh I know Rzo will come through with the tunage. I got a couple on vid some of you can prob ID.

Great to see everyone. James, Phil, Kelly, Rzo, Ben, Fred of course Stan, Adam who recognized me from high school lol, and Toni, Ginger, and Ray. Pics and vids to come soon!!

Sander fucking threw it down. My first time seeing sander and it was awesome. Well worth a 150 mile drive.

Anyone recognize this track?
He played a track with male vocals that said something like:

california dreaming and I ______
I am just man...
something something something
life keeps dealing me
a losing hand..
a losing haaandd...
am just a maaaannn
a losing handd....

edit: oh, and the opener's name was Carlos Mendoza. He is a resident dj at Zinc bar down the street. He played really good tribal, it sounded much like Hernan Cattaneo's style. There weren't enough people there that early to really get into it though.

Posted by kelly923 on Nov-25-2005 04:17:

i fucking looove sander!

that's all for now...

Posted by charon on Nov-25-2005 04:26:

He definitely played the last track of "Lee Burridge vs Sander Kleinenberg @ Dance Department (538) 19-11-2005". Its an ID right now though. Its either Gwen Guthrie - Peanut Butter (Remix) or N-Joi - The Anthem (ID Mix)

Arrow A cool evening

Was hoping to see the review thread come up anytime soon and could've bet my last dollar that it's gonna be from ClubGoddess

And before i forget, it would be good if someone IDed that track which went something like "I am just man". I must've danced like crazy on that track. Not that i don't dance like crazy otherwise!

I was there around 11:00 and the place looked freakin empty - i had to confirm that Sander K was indeed gonna be coming. Carlos Mendoza had quite a sedate start playing some looseners and some real mediocre stuff until like 11:45 or so before he started to not only pick up the tempo but also some good mixes. He really got it going past the midnight and quite made up for the listless beginning.

The club icon - it was my first time there - seemed okay. They can do with somewhat better sound system though. What was interesting though was, there didn't seem too many "drunk-chick" hunters. The crowd was pleasant and mostly trancers who seemed to enjoy their dance. And yes, the bartenders were nice .

Baby Anne, supposedly florida's "heart throb" DJ was present too. It seemed like she was with her boyfriend and enjoying her evening like the rest of us. Didn't find too many people bothering her which was surprising considering everytime she comes to the Amphitheater, she seems to have guys go beserk. Seems like she is not that popular in her hometown or maybe she was just keeping a low profile.

I saw Sander K arrive, thanks to ClubGoddess who had informed me earlier that "he would be getting out of the the elevator anytime soon".

To be very honest, i am neither a big fan of his nor know much about him except for i think a "Who is Sander K" thread i had read on one of these forums sometimes back. But it did strike me that he was really patient with all the photo-shoot sessions and obliged almost anyone and everyone who bothered to approach. It's always good to see someone being so modest.

He played mostly good mixes but there were some very mediocre ones too. The particular mix of Perasma- Swing to Harmony was almost awful. It seemed to have killed that beautiful track! A couple of mixes i couldn't ID were really good. One more thing, he maintained a good tempo throughout but i was hoping he would raise it as the night went by - something that he didn't do. Of course, everything that he did was lapped up and cheered for by all, including me .

And just before the end or prior to the last track that he played, he tried something that didn't really work out. He was trying something funky with the mixer and crowd stood still waiting and hoping that something big was about to come out, and it didn't happen. Was a bit of an anti-climax.

And these little things get noticed only because there is high expectation from someone is is regarded that highly among his contemperories.

Otherwise, he was fantastic and it was a wonderful evening.

And yes, i would've loved to meet some TAs from this forum. Just didn't know where or how to find them. Maybe the next time.

!!! What!?
That sound system was insane! If you were up on the balcony, it wasnt that intense, but down on the dancefloor the bass was rattling my clothes. My heart had a hard time pumping because it was competing with the explosions coming from the speakers. My ears just stopped ringing.

I also think we should have had some sort of TA meetup...

And ya, sander tried to do something towards the end, he built up the really climactic sound, and then ... it just kinda died down, and then it continued. It was weird, but nobody seemed to mind because its "oh holy Sander". He didn't fuckup anything else though

On another note, Sander also played some remix of Royksopp - what else is there.

edit: the Trentemoller remix

For most of the night we were right infront of the revolving dance floor stage thing. The speakers were under the stage and we could feel the power comin from them. I could feel the fat in my ass gettin emulcified. Compared to some of the other clubs in O-town, Icon has a pretty good set up. When I was at Zinc Bar, for Hybrid I think, one of the speakers was farting the whole night.

It wasn't bad or anything

"For most of the night we were right infront of the revolving dance floor stage thing."

For most part of the night, i was on the revolving dance floor stage that never did revolve (thankfully).

Maybe they have the right set/equipment and just need to re-arrange the acoustics. In any case, it wasn't bad or anything, i just feel it can be better.

Yeah, it never revolves. I was up there for Oakenfold and vowed I wouldn't go up there again. I kept fallin off the sides of the stage.

Ya, I think thats it. They had the speakers directly above and infront of the circular thing, so the huge subs were in front of you facing the other way. I was standing infront of the circular thing, so me, along with the entire dance floor got intense bass.

Yeah sander was fucking awesome that night. The only two track I recognized were David West - Larry Mountains 54 and Tracking Treasure Down. When three o'clock hit us, I felt like it was not enough, lol.

Baby Anne and Icey were there too. What a great night.
