George Best - Greatest Player Ever!
George Best - A tribute.
It is with great sadness but also great pride that we pay tribute to George Best. Ask anyone worldwide what they know about Northern Ireland, and despite all the attention on our problems, it's a fair bet that a great number of them will mention George Best in their replies. Indeed, it's a fair bet that there isn't a true football fan in Brazil, Argentina, France, Germany, Italy or anywhere that hasn't heard the name 'Best'.
Northern Ireland may never win a World Cup or a European Championship. We may only have beaten England twice at home in 77 years. But we can be so, so proud that when people list the greatest players of the world's most popular sport, one of our own will be on there.
George's achievements in the game, despite his short career, are too many to list. But they stretch the span of football from the 1968 European Cup Final to bagging 6 in the mud of an FA Cup tie against Northampton Town. There was the famous 'goal' against Gordon Banks and England. There were many other moments. All provided joy and inspiration to a generation of fans and players in Northern Ireland, in Manchester, even in the USA.
Even those too young to see George play will have held him in the same regard as if he played on Saturday.
Beyond football there's plenty more to mention, and we all know the stories and myths. George was an entertainer on and off the pitch. And for us in our small corner of Europe, he was our entertainer, and our hero.
Pele himself said that George was the greatest ever, and there can be no finer tribute than that.
We'll miss you George. We really will.

I saw him play, i was only a nipper mind
George Best simply was one of the greatest footballers ever to have lived, a unique talent sadly taken by the demon drink.
REST IN PEACE
RIP Georgie Best.
