help with making oldschool disco strings

K, I really can'r get this down and I'm not sure where to go now. What I want to do is make that string sound used in a lot of old disco tunes and used in a lot of diso house tracks too. I have lots of string sample cd's but I just can't seem to find any samples that work to even come close to that type of melody...the samples all sound like pads.
I just want to know how its put together and a sample cd that might help me.

samples could be heard in Armand Van Heldon's "You Dont Even Know Me"(main melody)

also in probably every disco tune from the 70's-80'sSample Here

sample cds are your best bet

Old disco strings were real strings played by real musicians.
Disco house unsurprisingly samples these originals... Stuff on the salsoul label is a goldmine for this (the salsoul orchestra actually released an album basically intended as a sample source not long ago).

The armand track you mention is sampled- the original strings are from Carrie Lucas - 'Dance With You'
Get crate digging my friend

sweet man thanks...I always wanted to know where that armand sample was from.

Thanks for the info.

one thing that I noticed though was that a lot of stuff was recreated instead of sampled.

I found this page http://jruaux.free.fr/samples.htm and it seems to me that most guys didn't sample straight from the 12" or did they? how did they remove the beats? thats not possible?

Its possible with EQ, filters or effects
just go to a club a listen when a DJ mixes two tracks ... same thing

sorry man, but removing hats, claps, kicks, and snares is not possible without being destructive to the actual sound your after...all those elements take up too much of the sonic range to be eq'ed out properly.

Please try again.

most labels will have vocal solos of every song.
When you have money , you can pretty much get any accapella you want.

You won't get rid of the original percussions 100% but when using eq, filters or effects you can disguise them ...
Listen to Armand Van Helden's "You Dont Even Know Me" you will still hear the original percussions when the sample is played solo ...
So once again Layers!
Take a sample but your own beats on top and youre on your way!

You rarely hear them in isolation when used as a sample....
Eq and filtering does the bulk of it, but the rest of the original track is masked by the new track.
Listen to spiller - 'groovejet' and listen to what I mean. Its an old salsoul sample
