A Minimix...by me :)

OK, so the other night I got a bunch of more recent tracks (that's right, working on getting NEW tracks for once, lol) and played with Ableton for the first time in almost two months (had to stop because I was just working so much...ugh)....and without giving any of these proper listens, tried to slap a mix together by just bringing them into Ableton and quickly sampling them as a track was already playing and trying to mesh a mix together.

The whole mix was 70 minutes but after about 36 minutes of it, it goes from "eh, it's ok" to just horrible. Horrible mixing, even worse EQs on the transitions...etc etc etc....so I cut that all out and am just making the first half of this a little minimix for download, lol...the first half is actually listenable...

DaveT - Buildup Minimix ; Total Time: 36:24 / Quality: 192kbps / Size: 50MB - Right Click and Save Target As...

So here you go...yeah, the tracklist is a bit "huhhh????" and changes styles pretty quickly but it was just me having a little fun ... anyhow, enjoy. I'm definitely getting better with Ableton. Just wish I had the time to sit down and learn the nitty gritty parts of it that make a big difference when mixing. Wish I had a proper mixer, too, lol.

01. Gorillaz - Dare (James Talk Remix)
02. Freeform Five - No More Conversations (Mylo Remix)
03. Tiefschwarz feat. Matty Safer - Warning Siren (Cass and Mangan Remix)
04. Dogzilla - Without You (Nynex and Trent Cantrelle Dub)
05. Hydroid - Drawn to Depth
06. Enmass - Beyond Horizon

Now...need to budget some money to buy lots more tracks!

I'll d/l when I get home...for now heres a tip:

EQ 3, Ping Pong Delay (Freq 60%, 3), Simple Delay (Freq 60%, 3), Audio Filter (High Pass), Suppatrigga

I have those effects in that order in each track, and with that you can do pretty much anything.

i've actually thought about starting to spin - vinyl and ableton - but i don't have the time and i'm afraid most of my mixes would be all over the place since i like so many different styles of music

But thats what would make them so interesting!

You should do something...CDJs for the win...vinyl is dead as much as its a beautiful way of mixing...

did you listen to the lee/sander mix? that was horrible IMO.

if they can't mix tech/prog/trance/cheese sound good, i don't think i can make minimal/tech/house/prog sound good

anyway - me mixing would mean i would actually have to learn the tracknames, which uwm knows that i totally suck at!

Oh and Clovis thanks for finally keying me in on the effect I've been after that you use ... Suppatrigga!

oh and rolf @ you 'teaching me'

And you should also really add 'Mastering Chain' under audio effect groups into your regimen.
