50 Cent - BullProof (Xbox 360)

Ok I thought Grandleft Auto was the lowest point of Video Game Industry ... but, this takes it out. Pretty sad they have to make a game like this to make money now.

You are against games like GTA? I think they are a very healthy way of allowing people to experience things, you would never want them to do in real life.

FUN AS HELL!

Although I hav enot play this new game, I will stand up for ultra violent games.

John is right

While Grand Theft Auto 3 may have revolutionized free-roaming games in a way; it's main claim to fame was the lame shit like "ooohh! i can beat the shit out of a cop!" and "look at this! i'm having sex with a hooker!!". When it came to actual GAMEPLAY, it was moderate at best. Then Vice City and San Andreas came out...both of which didn't improve the GAMEPLAY at all, but instead allowed you to do more trivial bullshit. They still featured the same stiff controls, bad pacing, etc.

Whatever...

...

Good games, in my opinion, are games that suck you in from beginning to end. Games that are more like an independent movie; artistic, with attention to even the most minute detail. Games like ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime...games that truly refine their genre, and take it to the next level.

I dont think I have ever had sex with a hooker, in the game, or real life, lol. And beating cops isnt even the half of the game.

Honestly, the best part of the game to me, is having a huge city, and being able to drive fast cars, and bikes. If i feel like causing some mayhem along they, great! The points your quoted are just the attention grabs, and there for shock value.

It is still primarilly a driving + shooting game. It still focus' mainly on driving, which is my favorite part. These games allow you to do a lot, see a lot, thats the whole point.

Games like GTA ruined the video game industry. The game engine itself has nothing to do with video games and take no skill to play. It's all sold by it's violence and moronic missions.

There are some games out there left that take you to the next level ... such as Metal Gear - 1,2,3, Castlevania, Final Fanstay, GT, Resident Evil, Megaman and especial the new ver. of Contra.

First problem that ruined the video game industry was high powered consoles, too much nice graphics and lack of gameplay. Now, moronic unskillful games like GTA and etc ... they would must like keep making selling these type of games, due to this new generation of gamers.

Posted by zokissima on Dec-02-2005 13:21:

GTA - recycled idea, recycled engine, recycled physics, recycled gameplay. The game has its upsides....well, one upside really, and that being that it is a completely free-roaming game, however, pretty much everything else about it comes up quite short, especially everything released after GTA3. I'm afraid that those games, as mentioned, did nothing to evolve the series, but just threw it further into mainstream mediocrity.
Games, like movies, have become completely diluted. Nary is there a product left that is actually GOOD. So few are left that are inspiring, original, captivating, and executed well. With this next gen of consoles, all we're getting is flashier graphics, but really the same old game as before.
As for the 50 cent game, I got very very angry watching the commercial. We know the typical person whom this game appeals to; need I say anything else about it.

50 Cent In Da Books

by Josh Grossberg
Nov 15, 2005, 10:10 AM PT

For 50 Cent, reading is fundamental--and apparently the latest step toward world conquest.

The rap superstar is parlaying his gangsta past into G-Unit Books, a new line of hip-hop novellas and graphic novels that will feature members of his G-Unit posse--Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo and Olivia--as characters. (Sidekick turned nemesis the Game, last seen sporting "G-U-Not" shaved in his head, apparently won't be lionized in the literature.)

The street fiction series from Pocket/MTV Books will "tell the truth about 'The Life': the sex, guns and cash; the brutal highs and short lives of the players on the streets," per the publisher's press release.

Nikki Turner, author of The Glamorous Life and A Hustler's Wife will write the first Fiddy-inspired life-in-the-hood novella, due in bookstores in 2007.

"50's always been a voracious reader, whether street fiction by Donald Goines...or business books, and he's always felt like getting books out into the community that reflect the lifestyle and also encourage people to read," the hip-hop star's agent, Marc Gerald, tells E! Online.

The book deal arrives on the heels of 50 Cent's autobiography, From Pieces to Weight, which has sold more than 40,000 copies since its Aug. 9 release, according to Nielsen BookScan.

"We did his memoirs together and it turned out great and it gave us the leverage to MTV and try to get this done," says Gerald, a former editor of Old School Books, one of the first urban black literature imprints from WW Norton that marked a resurgence in the genre.

According to Gerald, 50 Cent is super-involved in developing the street-themed series. The rapper will host a summit of G-Unit creatives--including the authors, his manager and attorney, and Prodigy, one-half of the rap duo Mobb Deep--to plot out the books.

The first wave of releases will be in the form of 150-page novellas; mangas will arrive later, since graphic novels take longer to develop.

G-Unit Books marks the latest business venture by 50 to capitalize on his rags-to-riches story. The former crack peddler, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, has sold more than 12 million copies of his two albums, 2003's Get Rich or Die Tryin' and this year's The Massacre. He recently launched a G-Unit clothing line. And his first movie, the semi-autobiographical Get Rich or Die Tryin', has grossed $12 million since unspooling last Wednesday.

The film's PR campaign stirred controversy, when community activists in Philadelphia and Los Angeles convinced Paramount to remove billboards showing 50 Cent with a gun in one hand and a microphone in the other, claiming the signs promoted guns and violence, especially to children in gang-ravaged areas. Then, a multiplex in Pittsburgh pulled the film after its opening night last week after a man was shot and killed.

Whether the upcoming books will generate the same kind of protests remains to be seen. But Gerald said the G-Unit brain trust is not going to "filter the content."

"I think 50 ultimately tells a really inspiring story of making it," the agent says. "I think all of his books, even though there might be violence, are all about optimism and getting there. And the opportunity to get young people to talk about books in a meaningful way, that in itself is an achievement."

While fans wait to read about Fiddy's world, they can soon play along with the home edition. The rapper's first videogame, Bulletproof hits store shelves next week from Vivendi Universal.

That is right, G-Unit books............wow.

aww man! how could I forget Metal Gear Solid!

So John, since we seem to share the same attitude about gaming nowadays (graphics first, gameplay second...as seen with the lackluster Xbox 360) I have to ask you this: what are your thoughts on the Nintendo Revolution, which de-emphasizes graphics?

Posted by Orko on Dec-02-2005 18:08:

Its amazing how you guys are saying that the GTA is recycled, and then you start givng FF, GT, MEtal Gear, Resident Evil as examples.

Each one of these series', including the entire video game industry, is guilty of the same thing which you are accusing GTA of. They all re-use the same ideas, concepts and strategies which make them 'great' games. They all have their style, and that is the whole point of making a sequel, to draw upon the success of the original, and to add some tweaks in order to keep the game 'fresh' and dynamic enough for the gamer.

zokissima in reference to recycling the engines. Wow, do you have any idea how expensive game development would be, if everybody created a new engine for every new game? Almost all FPSs buy another engine, and just built their games on top of them, that's how the industry is built.

And again, when referring to GTA, you are still looking at the same basic elements, which advertisers use for shock value. When fans like us, say that we play it for much, much more than that, you seem to just discount it.

The truth is, only two types of game can even hold my interest these days, for more than 2 weeks, Racing and GTA. Simple.

Graphics before game play: if you looked at the GTA series, you would also see that it was never at the forefront of graphics technology. the PS2 versions all look like shit, the Xbox versions are a step above, and the PC versions are FAR behind anything good avaialbe on PC. Seriously guys, play the damn game, and compare to the rest of the industry before you critique it.

Here is an interesting article, by John Dvorak. He is an editor for PC Mag, and a great writter in my opinion. Although he does not talk specifically about the GTA series, he does seem to share all of our sentiments about he game industry:

Doom4: the end of the video game industry
by John C. Dvorak.

Its a really good read, i scanned it from a PC Mag from a few months ago.

GTA3 is also some of the laziest game programming I've ever seen.

fuck... I am gonna play Contra: Shatterd Soldier tonite....

Console games are usually quite lacking in innovation... I mean, Halo is just working off the Tribes model.

Posted by infinity HiGH on Dec-02-2005 18:23:

Metal Gear Solid 1 -> MGS3 was a bigger evolution than GTA3 to San Andreas was.

Resident Evil was getting pretty stale until RE4 came out; and completely re-invented itself and is now one of the smoothest, most intense action-horror games.

Obviously the basic concept is gonna be the same; but look at how many different things are incorporated into those games to make it a new experience.

You're right when you say that a lot of the industry recycles their ideas; and there's even more games out there who are guilty of copying GTA and jumping on the "free-roaming" bandwagon. And do a much worse job than GTA. But like I said before; there's a difference between a game thats a masterpiece (meaning everything in it is perfected, it's nearly flawless. eg. metroid prime) and a game like GTA which is a great game at most. It still features the same stiff controls it did when part 3 came out; same crappy animation as before, poor coding, etc etc.

But you can't deny that it's main claim to fame, and the reason why it's one of the best selling games of all-time, is NOT for it's engrossing story. Most people (or casual gamers, if u will), and I really mean most, like it because of the mindless freedom it gives you.

I havent played this 50 cent game, but wow I'm really surprised anyone can bash GTA 3+ (other than the violence). I've been playing games on and off for 15 years, and I was completely blown away by GTA 3. The gameplay and overall value is incredible, I think most professional reviewers agree. Look at any review and it scores close to perfect. It's worth 5x as much money as other horsecrap out there. (I'm talking about the PC version here of course, console versions are a joke)

Posted by infinity HiGH on Dec-02-2005 18:36:

I've been playing video games for about 15-16 years; with a huge interest in games and the industry for the past 9 years. And I wasn't really impressed with any of the GTA games. The most I'd give any GTA game out of 10 would be 8...and even that would be pushing it.

Console games lack innovation? How so? I could say the exact same thing about PC games.

Where's the innovation in Half-Life 2, for instance?

I agree though, Halo is probably the least innovative FPS game out there. (well k, thats pushing it, cuz then there's games like Doom3)

The invovative thing about HL2, was again the engine, and not the game it self. THe physics modeling was definitly a step above anything before, in regards to the fact that you can actually interact with most of the items in the world. That was its single biggest strength. That is was Valve was going for.

Otherwise it was a simple FPS. They really wanted to be able to market the game engine, as the new gen, and I believe it is. Usually in games, you can only interact with objects that he developers have actually thought about. Here you can pick up, and use ANYTHING! Very cool.

Gravity Gun + Saw Blade = FUN!

Everytime I look at the cover of that game, I can't stop laughing. Is that supposed to be the "tough" look?
