John O'Callaghan - Dynamix (Nem Remix)

Ok guys, not going to pretend this is going to set the world on fire, but was looking through my heaps of midi files and found a J O'C track that I wanted to remix years ago. Took me a few hours so it's not a master piece but I hope you like it.

Doesn't compare to the quality of the original but it's my quick interpretation of the track.

DYNAMIX

Cheers

hey karl.

just listened. i forgot i downloaded it.

im not familiar with the original so ill comment on it as an original piece.

intro; this sounds very mix friendly and full. id add some high presence to the kick maybe?

1;00. quite haunting but a bit obvious sound wise..

2;28: break is nice. melody is nice and the synths have a nice dirty sound to them. bass is also nice.

main part @ 5:00 : id love to hear some strong strings or pads accompanying the rest of the track. to make it a bit more epic.

good work but maybe a bit 'obvious' as a trance track..

rich

ps. how is it going in general for you mate? any 'dirt' news or improvements you ve made?

Hey Rich,

It's not been going badly, been spinning three or four times a week at various locations so has been taking a lot of my time. Played in Brighton for the first time in ages a few weeks back. Problem is it was an electro house set so didn't feel as passionately about that as I might have. Still went well and the promoters want me back.

Dirt is still unsigned, probably because of the fact that it's hard to actually put a category to it. Had some good feedback from labels even if they didn't want to sign it.
Had a lot of local DJ's dropping it in their sets which is nice but one of the reasons I haven't played it in my own as it's getting a bit caned here at the moment.
Played it to one guy at a label who said it wouldn't work on the dance floor, but having seen other people drop it I know that's not the case. It's really cool seeing peoples faces light up when that first break kicks in.

With regards to Dynamix, I agree the format is a bit predictable but it was intended as it's kind of a blast from the past. John sent me the midi when we used to see his tracks posted here on a regular basis so it was kind of a salute to a TA done good keeping the period of time in mind.

Thanks for listening and comments.

Cheers
Nem errr Karl

PS
Liked the set you did when you tested out your ear plugs, nice to hear something different, some najs tracks. Might even have to pop down to one of your nights to see you play.

Some other comments would be nice, I can see a lot of people D'loading so at least speak your mind even if you think it sucks.

Listening...

Kick and bass sound cool, nice and deep... The effects are nice to start the track up, percussion build is cool. The pads are massive and work but would be better with more elements in the buildup.

The breakdown is a bit plain. nice synth on the way in... suprose kick in too. The main mix doesnt sound right, a bit flat on that synth?...

This is ok, tbh i really like "dirt" so much more, i think thats ure area... Keep it up.

I definately agree with you, the chunkier stuff comes a lot easier to me. But this was kind of my blast from the past session he he.

Thanks for listening though.

All the best
