Scott Yee's promotional mix for G&D

This is the promotional CD I will be handing out to anyone who wants one during my opening set for Gabriel & Dresden this Saturday @ Club Eleven50 in Atlanta, GA. It's dark, moody, minimally progressive. I would love from feedback from fellow DJs. Thanks for listening!

Took a quick listen the other day. A few solid tracks in there, one being an old remix oakey played back in the day. I enjoyed the first 40mins or so of the set but the flow wasn't what I expected as the set was dominated by breaks. Full review after I have another couple of listens.

Thanks for the feedback but there was only 2 breaks tracks in there. And one of them was only half breaks...

DLing cause I heard you rocked opening for G & D

Posted by Takayuki on Dec-05-2005 19:22:

I would assume this is an opening set but if not I would have fallen asleep in the club
Most of your set was quite a bore to me with only two tracks standing out as a winner. All of your transitions were solid but I was confused as to what you were trying to do with the flow of the set. It seemed all over the place. With regards to it being "Abysmally Dark" I diverge. Tracks 4&5 were the only songs that truly gave the set a dark feeling.

1) Not bad to start off but seems to drag on

2) zZZzzZzZzzZZzzZ. Breakbeat

3) zZZzzZzZzzZZzzZ. Has some breakbeat in it.

4) 18:41 - Horrah! Finally a nice bassline to get things kicking followed by a nice drum tap.

5) 20:41 - AWESOME track !!! This track has that perfect deep, dark bassline With an atmospheric feel but just when I thought the set was picking up the pace the flow completely changes and loses that delicious deep dark feel.

6) 24:26 - Breakbeat. This track creeps in slowly with the highs.

7) Decent track. Some cool sound effects in this track.

8) zZZzzZzZzzZZzzZ. Breakbeat

9) Breakbeat remix of that Oakey choon I liked. A little bit of clipping but nothing too noticeable. Since I'm really not a breaks fan I didn't really enjoy it; vocals were good though.

10) Good track despite having a breaks beat to it.

11) Couldn't stand this track.

12) Couldn't stand this track.

13) Loved the vocals in this track but it had that "rock" feel to it with that annoying guitar. Too many percussions drowning out the song.

Conclusion:

Your mixing is XLNT to say the least, no problems there at all. However, all in all this set was far from being a winner (in my books atleast) because of my bias towards breaks. Generally however, your track selection and flow could use some work. I hope that you don't take my criticism to heart and know that this is personal preference.

I would appreciate it if you could have a listen to my latest set and give me some feedback. It's what I would classify as Deep, Dark, Dirty Progressive House / Tribal House with a trance edge and feel to it. I think you will enjoy it

well blazed, i downloaded your set.

some good tracks on there, unfortunately your mixing is quite predictable (read: zzzzzzzzzzZzZzZZzZZzzzz)

and you should consider investing in a quality sound card or at least one with some line level inputs, instead of using the mic input on your sound blaster. or perhaps you were going for the guitar pedal distortion effect? seriously though, this is evident in almost every track and is quite prevalent in track 2. basically, the bass sounds really shit for some reason. also, the constant panning gets a bit old, not too mention the trainwreck at 46:10.

i was going to put the set on my ipod and rock it in my car, but it would make me feel shit about spending $3800, on my single 10" sub system.

Actually, I was using the RCA inputs on my soundblaster X-Fi platinum soundcard. What was causing the major clipping and distortion was the sound effects on my controllers which also act as an external soundcard. Anyways, glad to see some negative feedback but you posted in the wrong thread. Good to see someone noticed the bad bass transition of track 7 to 8. I did mention I was messing around, as this was not a pre-planned mix.
