Dancing Dude Where do you get your music from?

I noticed the vast majority of people here have incredible amounts of music and know a lot of tracks that the general population and people not really into electronic music would ever hear. There are all sorts of tracks, albums and ever artists that I have never heard of.

I want to expand what I listen to. So please tell me where do you find music. Do you buy it online, at stores, stream from radio, download live sets? Are there specifc sites you visit?

Basically what I'm trying to get at is to find out the sources for discovering the enormous amount of music out there.

i personally listen to quite alot of livesets and try and get the songs i like off them.

Once you find an artist you like it's pretty easy to branch out by looking at who they remix for, or get remixed by, and who they do colaborations with.

Also just listening to things on online music stores.

listen to Livesets

Also, I go to the local record store and pick out several records that look good, and sample them on the stores turntables before purchasing... but I have spent over $200 in the past three weeks buying records.

Aren't you a dj for etn? This equals self advertising and qualifies as spam. You are banned.

SIKE! I'm just pushing your buttons.

Take a wild fucking guess.

don't listen to live sets...if you want to expand your tastes dig around in online record shops...

Posted by Ygrene on Dec-05-2005 03:55:

All the music I get comes from:

dancerecords.com
juno.co.uk
planetxusa.com
germantrance.com
and
beatport.com

I check the new releases for the vinyl sites everyday and I check Beatport maybe once every two weeks.

Thanks, this is what I was looking for. I didn't even know there was something like this.

I'll add this to listening to DI and ETN.fm

Yu mentioned you were mixing. You sample records here and buy them exclusivly? I don't know of any places around where I live where I could physically try out vinyl.

hehe well do what you want of course . but i pretty much do what you do on the sites above ...of course listening to live sets is a good idea...i just think it needs to be combined with the digging .

when i listen to live sets i find that tune i like and then i go find it and other tunes by that artist at the record stores...then i check their aliases...then i check other tunes on the labels their releasing etc...so i guess yeah i listen to live sets too, to get me looking in the right directions...

It's always been a tough choice for me, as far as trying hard not to mimick what I'm hearing in livesets. I do more digging now rather than listening to livesets (although I do still listen to a fair amount), and I've found that it's a lot better for me; I've found tracks that I haven't heard anywhere else, and have (at least in my opinion/from what I've heard recently) come up with my own fairly unique sound.

Of course, it's all up to what one chooses to do for themselves.

I just dig. I'm addicted to the hunt.

Added: I've also been getting promotional material lately as well. It helps to have an inside connection or to be part of a pool.

I sample them there and buy them there. I rarely ever buy at a shop because A. I don't know where one is lol and B. I usually come up empty-handed or the purchases i make are 'forced'....and by that I mean, I pressure myslef to find a record to buy and then i usually end up buying something i normally wouldnt and i never play it.

Yeah, that's what I need to start doing lol

www.audiojelly.com is one of the best ive found for both price and the qualilty of the samples plus selection. I just listen to the latest trance tracks every so often. if i like it i buy it, if im not sure, i do something naughty listen to it then buy it.

www.astralmusic.nl

best site for samples! listen there to the whole track/album when available with samples.

Posted by zoric on Dec-05-2005 14:55:

The best way of exploring trance is listeing to livesets on radiostations. It's pretty hard to listen to everything, that'll include every liveset ofcourse.

But if you're interested always check out ETN.FM and DI.FM - They've got some really good shows even though I'm not a fan of most of DI's shows.

Check it out and choose your genre.

A blend of livesets and download sites.

I listen to livesets, write down the tracks I like, then I go on sites like audiojelly or beatport and search for those artists to find similar tracks. Or sometimes when I have time to burn I just go on sampling frenzies and listen to random tracks on those sites.
