Questions about Balance 008 and the Balance Series in general

Hi guys,

I'm thinking about buying Balance 008 but i'm gonna have to have a few questions answered just like with 005. Everybody was raving about 005 and saying how good it was so i went out and bought it. I consider myself extremely lucky that there was only one track that I didnt like.

which leads me to these questions:

1. Do DJs who undertake a Balance mix have complete control of the tracklist or do the tracks have to be a certain type of music?

I just want to make sure I'm not going to be buying something with tracks that contain really awful vocals.

2. What type of music does 008 have?

3. What is the mixing like in 008? People dont seem to be raving about it like with 005.

and the final question...

4. How does it compare to 005?

I think the artists are selected for their taste in music, so no, i dont think that they would be forced to add or remove tracks to fit the bill.

2. What type of music does 008 have?
dunno, havent heard it

3. What is the mixing like in 008? People dont seem to be raving about it like with 005.
same

4. How does it compare to 005?

Some djs like these "really awful" vocals.. i believe djs have a lot of control on a balance disc, but they still play there style

2. What type of music does 008 have?

House.

Its crap, nice tunes on disc 2, but the technical mixing isnt great on 008 either.

and the final question...

4. How does it compare to 005?

005>008

But i liked 008 still, but its a completely different style of play and music.

It is different to Holdens 005 and is also an awesome mix in my opinion. Didn't hesitate in buying it and don't regret it, it is on constant repeat (especially CD1 ). And for ~$30 AUD it isnt going to break the bank so dont be a tightarse and just buy it...

Posted by spc on Dec-05-2005 05:25:

the mixing is decent... there are some times where the transitions are a bit shady or the flow of the mix changes (ex: disc 2. halcyon -> next track) but things like that dont bother me, as i know it bothers others on here.. so i overall enjoyed it because i was a fan of his style and selection.. in regards to balance 005 i havent heard it.. but it would definitely be given that the mixing from holden on 005 would be much better since holden is much much more technical and precise in regards to mixing compared to desyn.. and as stated previously, totally different genres

great so then theres a pretty big chance it might contain tracks with shit vocals

(the type of vocals heard in %90 of house)

its not that its just that... well... what am i going to do with it if I dont like it?

I guess i'm just searching for a mix as good as 005. Will there ever be one as good?

If you like 005 so much, then perhaps you need more electro shite that comes out on Fabric compilations.

ya what he said

I have yet to hear a mix that comes close to Balance 005 for if the only reason of the different genres of music it encompassed.

EMOTIONAL ELECTRONIC MUSIC

We released the album at the end of 2003 and the sets James played at the time were in my top ten of the year that year DEC 13/ 2003

SYSTEM SOUND BAR!

heres a thought: download it!!!! And by download it I mean borrow it from a friend and make your decision then.

The DJs have complete artistic control over their albums. Even tracks that you would think would be difficult to license dont pose no problems (take Orbital - Halcyon & On & On for example, which is also on the Balance 008 12" Sampler).

I haven't heard 008 so I can't directly answer your questions, but here's my experience with the Balance series.

Out of the Balance series, I've heard 003, 005 and 007 and I love them all. That's enough for me to want to check out what the rest of the series has to offer (ie, d/l before I buy). 003 and 007 are definitely house (more breaks on 007). 003 has a few cheesy samples thrown around in there. 005 is a little bit different with a few weak IMHO tracks ie. Jase From Outta Space Do What You Want (Infusion's Sky Mix) (never liked that track). 007 is just exactly what I like, plus it's 3 CDs.

There's also a Balance pres. Electric series, but I don't know exactly what that's all about.

ok

008 > 005, just as Desyn > Holden.

If you know Desyn at all, this mix compilation epitomizes his progressive side, rather than his electro/discoey side.

Then again, don't listen to me, I can't stand trance and think "Do What You Want" was the best track on 005.

hehe, I'm surprised people didnt snap at u for that. anyway what I meant was... the mixing on 005 was good and the track selection was really good because each track seems to go perfectly after the one preceeding it.

How the freakin' hell can u possibly like vocals where chicks are using that really stupid voice and saying shit like "...and you know that I want you to say that you love me"?

and then they do that thing where they strain their voice and it goes all growly...

You probably won't like Moloko - Cannot Contain This then. It was too diva-ish for my tastes. I did like other stuff on the CD, though. Check out the thread in the reviews section.
