How has Trance culture changed?

Why is it hard to find the same cultural atmosphere that Ibiza once held on to? Why did people stop going to the clubs for the music and more for just partying and doing drugs?

One theory is that raves have lost their "underground" appeal and thus have opened into the mainstream norm of society. Anyone can go to a "rave" with their friends despite what the DJ plays now. It used to be for the music. Now, It's for everything but the music.

Its been opened up to much. People that know absolutely nothing about music can just jump into the scene and give their worthless contributions. All that nonsense poisons the purity of what electronic music culture is all about. At least thats what I feel like sometimes.

Exactly. It's become Pop music, to an extent. Pop always degrades what is good. Sad.

Because it was taken out of the warehouses and paddocks and squeezed into nice neat little clubs that were only a cabride away. You buy your ticket, grab two pills, your von dutch t-shirt and head out to catch the 2 hour set of the main act, complain about how shit he was compared to last year and are tucked back up in bed before the sun comes up.

The actual notion of dancing till you were in a trance is gone and replaced by a pill rush, 80k sound systems and spectacular light shows. Its so convenient and spectacular that theres no need for community, no need for investment and no need for any real opinion on the music because the DJ's tracklist tells us exactly what cool at the moment and as long as we can spot a few ch00ns we know in the set, we're pretty happy.
