im hoping everyone here can help me out for my first live performance
its going to be in a comunity hall and im to be using 2 pc towers 2 monitors and some high end programs for mixing
this takes place in january and i need to get some ideas for the set up
im renting some huge speakers lighting and im to get a hold of a projector
about 100 people are to show up
and i need some feed back on what im doing and some ideas

idea: get some cdj's
DUDE since its a "rave" and underground and everything. You should print off like 500 fliers. Then invite all the kandi kids. Then have the event called PLUR. Then after that play happy hardcore and say how E changed your life......
I'm just giving you shit. Scout local talent, make sure if you need a permit for it etc. If its going to be a public place your doing it at. Ummmm make sure u have lasers. Test the sound, where is the best place for the speakers to be. Could make the event themed if you want Pajama night. 3 ways to approach the cost.
#1 Charge the near exact amount it will come to for all the equipment.
#2 Make profit, you know how to do this
#3 low low cost, charge 7 bucks for wata

print out loads of flyers and go promoting at parties as much as you can beforehand. Just go to clubs or events of the same genre or type as yours and distribute flyers to as many people as possible telling them about your party, plus its free, so you will be able to win over alot of people.
do about three times the amount of promotion you think you should do!
make sure the amps power add up to double the speakers power. then you know youll be driving them well. if you cant feel the bass nicely on a test then get more sound equipment.
you can have the shittest lights and venue ever and a wicked sound rig will make up for it!
then just make sure you got decent dj's and music.
and a lazer / strobe /smoke / u.v setup...

1. Make sure you have a good fog machine and good lighting
2. A good DJ
3. Use something more hands on other than computer mixing (Turntables, CDJs... ect.)
4. Good sound System
5. Good tracklisting/music
6. Drugs (if it isnt the greatest rave people won't notice because they are all trippin' out, just get dealers to go sell it or something... blah)

i spent all of my funds on speakers and lighting
how much money did u spend?
about 300 bucks to rent these spkeakers
and 200 to rent red blue yellow lights that screw to the ceiling
strobe lights were donated
the comunity payed for everything
If you can get your hands on a smoke machine that would be cool. Helps the lighting work much better.

if it's a free rave, well, i'm pretty sure it would get a lot of people (given proper promotion of course). based on that, im sure a lot of good, albeit maybe not known DJs would spin for free, just for exposure. you just have to dig. btw, FREE RAVE = LOTS OF PEOPLE ON DRUGS = THEY DON'T WANNA LEAVE.
this means, this thing will go on forever. you prepared to not get up from mixing on a computer the ENTIRE NIGHT? what if their is a problem? what if you need to take a shit? consider this. check around man. maybe you can open and close the event, but i highly recommend getting more people to spin. i garauntee some guys will be willing to put part of their gear in the setup if you garauntee them a timeslot. i've seen guys lend a mixer, 2 decks, 2 monitors and an amp for a 150-200 people free party just for the chance to spin in front of them.
finally, SECURITY. you never know when a drug deal might go bad, or a fight will break out.
just my humble advice, based on throwing crazy afterparties.
and dont forget!! make the room super dark!!! i mean really2 dark....
let the girls in for free and charge the guys!
confiscate everyones drugs at the door then sell them (keep enough for your self!)
and you should make it a themed night! might attract some more people.
