Brutal Sun - Nem

Ok folks, heres probably what you are used to hearing from me. Again not really sure what to categorise this as.
It's quite dark and a bit quirky but please listen and post your comments.

Just so you know, yes I am aware of the panning issue with some of the percs and there are still a few effects and fills that need to be sorted.

Brutal Sun - Nem

first off, premium website, looks pimp.
good original intro, with some killer soundbytes, that kick is soo deep...
2min and im waiting for a progression... sounds like the tempo should go up a bit, gets a bit static but then break comes.
i feel that the drive of the intro is kinda lost in the pads and that something harder would be expected, but your the artist. soundwise its good, no mastering complaints- 128k

Hey Nem,

Downloading now, i have some slow internet..

WHat style is it?

Posted by Allied Nations on Dec-06-2005 13:25:

I dig i dig!

Deeeeep Bass!!!

Other than the perc its a solid tune, some quality issues, the main panning synth sounded a little tinny...

Will go in depth after a couple more listens.

Tough to categorize tho you are right!

House remix plz thanks!!

breaks are sweet! another thing I noticed how did you get that picture there? you know the one you see on the right of mediaplayer
nice fx..
3:13 nice fx again!!
love the evil melody I dont know for further on.. I dont like the idea of the lead pad.. I wouldve liked a synthlead imo
weird ending.. was expecting a kick still
good job!

Slick, man... real slick...

Hard and soft at the same time (until the distorted drums come into play). Then things become overcompressed, and messy.

Brutal, man... just brutal.

One things I have to say is that this sounds like a cool new style of dark trance. It's not really psy, it's more like soundtrack-ish, ID SOftware's DOOM going to the dance floor - pumping up some pure brooding madness.

Good intro.
I like the percs.
Nice attacked stab.
Good fxes in general.
Good percs again.
I like the pad. It has a really good sound.
Loose the snare roll, it's cheesy.
Here comes the pad in the break.
Add some choirs in the background.
Nice kick off but I think you should have something else after that.
It should be more powerful, maybe a crunchy & growling bassline and a wild, all over the place riff (not saws or something defined, something really weird).
Overall you should have more elements and more bass, a heavier one.
Great atmosphere. Good sounds. But you need more.
303s just doesn't fit here in the original so I'll remix this if you'd like

7.5/10
Omer.

Thanks for the reviews guys and the comments are real helpful.

It is still a work in progress so do have some issues with it myself that I hope to work on, but will add the ideas you have too.

The ending was just something I did just to have something to post. It will eventually be structured properly. Sat up last night trying to create some more sounds for it and have a few ideas. Will keep you posted.

Cheers

I give it a strong B+. It sounds a lot better than my shit, although that's not saying much. I think this would sell fine on vinyl as a sweet worker track. Bass- really low seems fine, low-mid needs more maybe? I could see a subtle lead with the pads that talks to you a little, just to tighten up the listeners attention a little.

Dino - I need to hit YOU up with a PM, so dump a few msgs from your over-stuffed inbox.....pretty please.

Listening...

Intro is wierd, likeing the percussion, are they sampled loops or one shots youve done urself??? like the sound effects here, very nice. kick is a bit dud for now, will get back to that in a moment. In comes the bass, very deep, maybe add a layer of higher octaved bass to give it some mid and presence??? the pads sound cool coming in there but they seem to do nothing atm, maybe a backing melody with that nem?

Breakdown, bit more melody going here with the phatt pads, still dissopointed with no melody tho, and in with the kick in is arite... Breakdown two coming in, better with the snare and still no melody or nothing to drive the tune imo. I like it jus there is something missing...

Percussion work is good, were they sampled loops?

My Bombay Buddy, Inbox Cleaned!

Still a good listen nem, i want a full version!

Posted by richg101 on Dec-07-2005 21:43:

hey karl!

this one passed me by..

just noticed it.

intro is great! reminds me of a vinyl i have by 'dexter' an electro producer.. from the start the whole thing sounds a lot cleaner in production than 'dirt'. but with the filthy sound still present

love the deeep sweeps and the bass.

this sounds very 'svd' in overall sound with some cool little sounds that add to the epicness of the sound.

id definately play this one!

break... this sounds evil! those sweep pads are very nice! top notch!

beat come back.. but too early i wanted a really nice long and moving break. work on the build up more cos i think this would help a great deal on the dance floor...

great work as i ve come to expect from you mate

ps. when its done id love a 320 of this.

rich

DJ_Palm
Yup I am aware of this but will be sorting it. I just bounced it up here just to get some input but thanks for listening.

Hey Rich,

Glad you like it. I agree it has a lot of structure issues and needs more to it without question as a lot of people have pointed out. I think I was just at a point where I needed input from other people to clear the mind a little. But so far there has been some good advice coming up and will be looking to finish this soon.

Thanks again guys.

Cheers

I enjoyed this thoroughly; it reminds me a little bit of the tune I'm working on at the moment.

I especially like how the pad washes over you.

Nice job, thanks for sharing.

I dont think I've had the pleasure of listening to one of your tunes before, so here goes.

Little lfo squelches at the start are cool.

Theres some percs that are panned hard left. Very distracting

Those rising pads/brass sounds are wicked. Really fills the space.

Subtle melody that comes in about halfway through is pretty simple but works well. I like it how theres a second layer of strings working underneath the pads. Good example of something simple done really well.

I think some of the elements are overused though. By the end, those squelches were getting to me. I think some morphing filter sweeps could work well... something to really slice through all those thick pads. That, or maybe more squeaky style stabs to grab your attention here and there. Just to break it up

Nice work though. A real hypnotic trance tune.
