What do you think about this Mixer?

Hi everybody!!

What do you think about this mixer? http://128.241.200.169/graphics/ps540i.jpg Thanks.

that depends on what you would like to do with that mixer, and it's price off course But i saw some specs, and you shure can have fun with it. But one warning with gemini: you can't buy those faders anywhere, so when your mixer is out of the garantee period, the repair costs can be expensive. but maybe you have a new mixer in the next 3 years

I wanna mix some techno stuff at home or on private partys.

Cool

From what I have heard about Gemini is stay away, but I dunno, I've never had a go on one of their mixers, I recommend you hav a go of it

having used gemini mixers in the past... i didn't have any issues with it.. however, it was my friends mixer, and supposedly he's now having problems with a channel fader... one that he's fixed already

It's the same as the PMX-140, only with a silver top plate. I have used the PMX-140 quite a lot, and it's not bad for a basic mixer. All the features are there that you need for starting out. I wouldn't reccommend it though if you are already spinning and have experience - you probably need something a little bit better. The sound quality is not brilliant (although not bad) and it only has 2 channels. If you want to expand then there's no scope for this. It's a cheap mixer, and that's about it.

Stay away from Gemini mixers!!!
Buy Vestax or something else!
Gemini are a pain in the fuckin' ass!
speaking from personal experience here!

Gemini's quality has improved over the past few years.. and for you price budget that mixer would be the best.

I have that mixer!

Hey,

I just got that mixer for christmas, as things stand right now I have no intention of keeping it for the long run, so i can't give you any info there, but as a beginner it deffinetly has everything that i need. The sound quality is pretty good, not amazing, but good. The rail slides are smooth enough, sometimes you can feel the resistence from the sides, since it is all metal, not enough to really bother any mixes, just noticeable. Overall I am very pleased with it for the budget that I had, it deffinetly doesn't dissable you from getting better, and it will not be somethign you outgrow in a week. I would deffinetly recommend it, have a blast, i know that i am!

I would have to recomend Vestax or Stanton mixers. They are quality pieces, and they look amazing. Check out http://store3.yimg.com/I/competitiondj_1661_269421 for the pcv175

Posted by YuVaL on Jan-26-2002 08:31:

well.. its an okay mixer. i played with it a little at a private party.. dont really recommand it.. but what the hell...

KarateKid

I've heard Stanton mixers usually don't go very well with mix DJs like us.. they're more for scratch Djs who would need extensive use of cross faders more than EQs. What do you guys think of this belief?

Oh, one more thing.. what do you think of the Kam KMX-300? What else should I consider in this budget range?

Dude!
Fucking dont go and spend valubale money on a Gemini mixer!
Gemini is something that wont last long and im speaking with experience.
I Used to own a Gemini mixer, And every week something else was wrong, The faders didnt go all the way up/down, the fucking crossfader didnt allways work, the equalizer kept getting stuck, not to mention i had to fix the entries that kept getting disconnected from the mixer, and i dont mean the RCA cables
i mean the entries themselves!
My Advice
Go and buy the Vestax PCV-175 Mixer
Its what i currently use.
And it has anything a good DJ needs
3 Channels
Full equalizer for each channel
4 mic entries
And a supperb sound quality.
Not to mention that the blue mirror finish makes me wanna cry everytime i look at it

Gemini's quality has improved dramatically from what it was about 5 years ago. Their mixers have good features and many of my friends dont regualrly have trouble with them.

They are quite good value too.. the only problem is that this person who wants the PS-540i has only a small budget, so he doesnt have the money to spend 3 times as much on Vestax gear.

Posted by DennisF on Feb-02-2002 17:36:

HI! Thank you all for your help! Now i got the PS-540i and im happy with it. I dont have the money to buy the Vestax mixer, but this mixer is good, it dont have probs at all. Quality is good and the sound too, now i only need good headfones
