BT - Movement In Still Life

Just heard some samples of "BT - Movement in still life"

sounds focking awesome!

did he have any help with this album or did he do all that funky shit himself?

Posted by RebeL9 on Dec-07-2005 23:57:

oh man you have missed one of the best EDM albums ever in my opinion.
The entire album is produced by BT himself except for Namistai which he did with PVD.
try to get hold of the Japan release. it contains two CDs with the never released Sunblind.

Posted by RapidFire on Dec-08-2005 00:05:

I hope youre talking about the import version because that ones a masterpiece. the American one is good but its less cohesive and more mainstream.

and yes he had some help on the album from Hybrid(running down the way up), PvD(Namistai), Tsunami One (Hip Hop Phenomenon) and Sasha (Ride). lots of guest vocalists too; M.Doughty, Jan Jonhnston, DJ Rap, and Kristy Hakshaw.

U.K version is the best imo. amazing album. on par with ESCM id say.

Posted by meneedit on Dec-08-2005 00:25:

I was gonna get the US one becuase its unmixed...

I just hate gaps inbetween tracks on mixed albums.

How much does each version differ?

Posted by RapidFire on Dec-08-2005 00:34:

well whats the point if half the tracks arent the same and the best ones are missing?

EDIT: not to mention the tracks are longer on the import

Posted by GrimReaper on Dec-08-2005 00:40:

Fantastic album! US version is unmixed but the tracks are edited to be even shorter than the mixed versions on the other releases. They are far from full length and the tracklist differs quite a bit from the other ones as well. Asian/Hong Kong 2xCD version is one of the few releases which has more than 1 full length versions of the tracks from the main album, on disc 2 tho.

UK, Asian, Dutch,....

Movement in Still Life is one of BT's masterpieces. Right up there with ESCM, as RapidFire said.

I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else, though. You should go import.

You can also get Sunblind on R&R. Although whether it's worth the whole album is debateable, IMO.

MISL is definetley one of my all time faves, amazing album with huge replay value (like ESCM)

But it's mixed on R&R.. well only about 20 secs but still mixed.

Yes he did some editing and programming on several tracks but BT also had several other big names to share their knowledge and talent on the tracks. For example Adam Freeland & Kevin Beber did some additional programming on Madskillz-Mic Chekka. And in the end BT together with another Andy; Andy 'Grayed Out' Gray sequenced the tracks together.

It's one of the several alternate editions of the album. It has the regular first disc but yet slightly different second disc. By the picture on the link you gave, it has the same cover as the UK 2xCD reissue. HERE is the same edition on Discogs.

Y'know, before now I'd never considered that elements of Smartbomb are actually present in Sunblind. The fact that the last crash decays completely made me think that Sunblind was a standalone before the actual mix.

I have a couple of questions.....and im confused as sh**.....which version of all would be the best to buy? If i were to buy the UK Version or The Japanese Version, where would i buy it from...and what is up with all the abbrieviations like ESCM or MISL?

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Dec-08-2005 17:20:

I haven't heard Movement in Still Life, but if it's as good as this thread implies I'll have to buy it. I do prefer BT when he's just trancing it out though- I thought Ima was a lot better than ESCM.

Posted by GrimReaper on Dec-08-2005 17:32:

J, if you prefer BT's trancier/housier side you might want to preview the album somewhere before buying it as it focuses more on the breaks and funky hiphop style beats than "trancing it" as you said. But of course a few of the tracks like Namistai, Mercury & Solace and Godspeed for example are more on the trancey side.

ESCM = Electric Sky Church Music
MISL = Movement In Still Life

I think the best place for the americans to get a copy of any of the 2xCD editions is Amazon or some other huge online store.. i got both the Japanese and Asian 2xCD editions with help from friends who are working and living in Asia so don't really have a clue which places are stocking them if any. You could try musicstack or GEMM.

Posted by fabio_trevez on Dec-08-2005 20:04:

this is one of my favorite albums! i got the us edition years ago, and when i heared for the fist time 'giving up the ghost' included in the bt's 10 years compilation, i said: its a shame that the record company took it out of the us version of movement in still life.

Do it.

Posted by Zombie0915 on Dec-08-2005 21:39:

I bought the US version at the mall one day, long time ago, like when I was in high school. I used to drive around with that cd playing in my car obnoxiously loud, it was so great. It was a good cd I think, it was quite energetic and at the same time really emotional without getting too goofy about it. Alot of people that hear it and get all dejavu because pieces of it are in the background of everything it seems, I think pieces of "smart bomb" show up in Nsync - pop, .

you should def listen to it, it is a happy medium between ESCM and ET. I thought ET sucked ass personally.

yes its called layering. the music has depth to it and everytime you listen to it you discover something new. once you listen to enough good music you'll learn to appreciate this.

Posted by XenatR on Dec-08-2005 23:11:

i dont think i will ever like this lol

edit: however, i do quite like BT - Flaming June (Original Mix)

What gaps are you talking about? Mixed albums don't have gaps in between tracks. Unless you rip the tracks separately to mp3s on your HD and play them with Winamp or some other media players which make "gaps" between the tracks when going to next track unless the mix album hasn't been ripped as one continuous file.
