for the TA elitists...

i just thought i'd say this.

we got a lot of people around here these days that don't seem to appreciate what we contribute to the boards so i don't know about the rest of you, but i'm going to stop contributing.

these are the same people that rely on us to ID their unknown tracks, fill in their dj tracklists, give them new tune suggestions that are "spacey" or "vocal" or "chill"...

seriously why are we wasting our time? we all spend a lot of time researching music and finding tunes that we love...we should just stop sharing that with all of these people that are always bitching...

let's face it, those that actually have a genuine interest in talking about music around here are sadly in the minority. i don't remember the last time i actually got a decent answer or good suggestion on this board...i can't remember the last time i found out about a tune on TA that i hadn't already known about...and when i do it's always the same ten people coming through with great sugestions. meanwhile we are excited to share music tastes and ideas with each other just so people with little radio shows can lurk and snatch up some good tracks that we suggest for their show next week.

it's just a bunch of crap. i mean we've already lost the TA battle to a bunch of people that are either promoting their average new tune or their cookie cutter radio show...and those that are just getting into the genre and think they know everything...

it sucks the most for those people that actually appreciate the suggestions of the TA "elitists" and want to expand their personal taste, but unfortunately the majority is ruining it for those people...

but really...lets keep our knowledge and opinions to ourselves. then where will TA be? it'll be a bunch of kids arguing about which tune on ASOT was the best that week, struggling to find new fresh music, wanting to know what that tune that dj played on that radio show was, and wishing they could get some suggestions for some "classics"...

we've tried our best to keep this site full of info, but we've lost...it's not our problem anymore.

Which country is that in your ID? Is it in Africa?

Do what you like man. I don't know if I'm an elitist or a bystander, but I'll do what I want on TA, and ignore anyone who thinks that's a crime.

well i'm sure you are considered an elitist on here SYSTEM-J, but you're always giving people suggestions and trying to help when you can...

when's the last time you got anything good out of TA musically? maybe from Sand Leaper or someone...but really?

i'm not planning on leaving TA at all...i'm just saying why should we go out of our way to help people when they have nothing to offer us but complaints and bitching...

I have heard that place before, but can recall... is it Africa? And that city in your Location is it the Capital city of your country?

Oh, it's Africa all right. The Africa of...your mind.

Yes, Mawnbai is the Capital. Here, the rivers run red with the blood of infidels and small children caught in crossfire. I spend most of my days either swimming accross them or making them even redder. Here's a picture of me getting jiggy with it:

On the other hand, if it were just a bunch of 'old-schoolers', TA'd end up like Discogs: a bunch of folks who discuss the absolute, utmost obscure tracks in existence, such to the point only the five people who've actually managed to snag an original pressing of such a release would know what everyone's talking about! Well, maybe not quite that bad...

I've found TA to be the crossroads between T.nu (uber fanboy/girl noob enthusiasm) and Discogs (ultra trainspotter core). Of course, this generates some fierce debates but isn't that the whole point of going on the interweb anyways?

i try to contribute as much as i can. its not alot mostly i do in tracklist section. i enjoy trying to help. noone falmes me for my posts there. its just the stupidy i do everywhere else. ill continue but ff if u quit. come back every ocne in a while, your posts are good in md

well i'm not a member on either of those sites so i don't know what their like...

all i know is that i've noticed the TA "elitists" are usually the first people in threads suggesting new tunes to people, wanting to help people when a genuine interest in music actually arises...and it's the whiny posters that are the ones asking for help. so why should we help them? i have hundreds and hundreds of tunes that i'd love to talk on TA about and introduce to people, everything from all the new funky house stuff to older ambient stuff...but i don't waste my time because 1. threads like that are usually between 2-3 people and get buried by ten posts of bullshit and 2. very few people actually contribute to TA and instead just lurk for tunes suggestions...

so why even bother?

yeah and i try to represent the afghan minority here on TA.
so in 100 years on the big tomb of TA elitism it will say that even the afghans contributed to TA's tracklists, IDs etc

seriously I understand Floorfillers frustration. 5 years ago i was a regular visitor of the forum at trance.nu. then after a while it was flooded by totally narrowminded worshippers. they had just discovered Tiesto and thought he was the eight wonder of the world.
every other thread was like "Tiesto OH MY GAWD RAWX MY SHORTZ!!!"
Thats why I left for TA. The atmosphere is much more laidback, much more educated people and alot of contributors for the IDs and tracklists. Just the fact that famous djs, other boards (incl t.nu) copies the tracklists from here says alot about how important the work done over here is.

We don't want to spoil this so let's hope this is a temporal trend which fades away. Narrowminded people is the last thing we need here.

God bless TA and future elitism! (not that I am an elite, i just like jolly good old trance music)
or
TA Zindabad ! (as we say in Afghanistan)

Well put...

I think this is common of any messageboard really, especially for the veteran poster. It comes to a point where the user has learned the answers to most of his/her questions and just stays around because of the atmosphere of the board and the quality of the new information that is presented...

HOWEVER, when new material is generally crap (perhaps a function of the music being released in general) then that is what is being discussed, people lose interest, and discuss other things.

But you have to look at things as both an elitist, and as a n00b. If you were just recently introduced to trance for the first time, you'd be following ASOT very closely because that would be your source of "new, good" music. And you would worship and follow Tiesto and PVD because they are the WORLD's NUMBER 1 DJ!!!! And then you'd see people talking about the "golden era" of 99 and Oakenfold and the EM World Tour and that's when you see the "what's your favorite EM of 1999" threads pop up. And then you get the new vinyl collector who asks "what's your favorite" thread and you get the mp3 downloader who wants new tracks and asks "what's the best of 2005"... it's all just cyclical, and thus repetitive and boring for the veteran.

Anyway, I guess it's just something you have to deal with and learn to weed out the threads we find boring. With an open community you'll never be 100% happy with the crowd. But hey, we all needed to learn at one point or another and hopefully we will all continue to learn...

Love of the music. I still get a kick out of playing someone a track or recommending them an album, and them replying "I really enjoyed that". There's always going to be bullshit on a forum of 50,000 members: you won't find another community remotely the size of TA that won't be free of whiners and arguments and arrogant newbs and all the other hallmarks of any Internet community. I long ago gave up on "recommend me X" threads because 99 out of a 100 times, they're asking for things I found through trawling and reading up and listening to discussion. I still recommend things to people who actually do care about the music, and I still answer questions: I just ignore the laziness and greed of many TAs. It's just something you have to deal with, and it's hardly the end of the world that some random forumite complained about your opinion.

Yes. And no. In America, the young children are brainwashed, like you were, by the smash hit animated film "The Lion King". You are taught that the toucans and baboons live in harmony with one another. You are taught that lions do not spend most of their days lying down waiting for hyenas to walk into their jaws. You are taught "hakuna matatta", when it is really "cock the gun-a and ratta tat tatta". You are taught that Whoopi Goldberg is a good voice actor. In the Africa of...your mind...there will always be worries for the rest of your days, which is usually a week or so.

yes it sux, but the best thing to do is just ignore those people. and choose better threads. if the thread is not your interest don't even bother.

Posted by Floorfiller on Dec-09-2005 18:25:

well i guess it doesn't really matter. i just hate that TA has become basically useless as far as music discussion goes. we had a thread not too long ago about "who shares your taste on TA" lots of replies, but the majority of the people who posted in that thread named people that don't even post in MD anymore because it really is a waste of time.

i still like lots of people on here...so at least there's that.

Posted by Kooshtie on Dec-09-2005 18:26:

How come they won't update the TA site design, wsnt that supposed to go down a while ago? Anyway, yea TA is def elitist country, its open season on the noobs, but what really gets me is, when certain people try to be polite and stir a convo with someone, and get to know someone, maybe because u share a common interest, and then next thing u know u get made fun of or some other shit, because the e-cliques on here run rampant, alot of the times its a popularity contest, and no one will bother speaking to u unless they know u for a while or ur "in". More courtesy should be shown on here, but its not gonna happen ..its the internet, people come here and use forums as a toilet dumping ground for their frustrations, emotional needs and so on.

Steps to being a succesful TA elitist:

a)Make fun of more mainstream stuff
b)Be blunt/right down to the point, with no room for discussion
c)State your opinion as fact
d)Respond with as little association to anyone not on the same level of elitism as yourself
e) have a hax sig or make stupid haxor comments to some legit question
f) Idolize more progressive sounding artists eventhough u may not even like their style, but just to make urself look more sophisticated
G)Orly owl
h)Treat new users like they belong in the gutter

OMG how can anyone blame the OWL????????????????

Posted by Kooshtie on Dec-09-2005 18:38:

frankly its old, and hax'd to death, moreso on this forum than any other.

Posted by Zombie0915 on Dec-09-2005 18:40:

I find that each person here tends to specialize in their own thing, and each person is here for a different reason.

It used to be that most were mp3 hunters, everyone was listing tracks to paste into napster or posting audiogalaxy links, everyone was watching the streams and collecting all the releases and memorizing track names and identifying them in sets. Some kids would latch onto one artist and know everything there was to know about that person, other kids would be into less popular genres or music from different eras in history or hundreds of other things.

Then there were the kids who just liked to chat, to find like-minded people, to pick the brains of kids all over the planet, some kids enjoy arguing, some are just curious explorers of various topics.

I'm just saying this because it seems like alot of you think the only purpose of this place it the hunt for tunes and talk the buzz surrounding the international headliner DJ's. But there is alot more going on here than that, I don't think very many people are going to miss one person ceasing to post stuff. Anyone can go on a google adventure and find tunes to talk about or visit a record shop, there are not very many kids whos musical satisfaction depends mostly on the contributions of 'elitists'.

There aren't any real elite people on this board, everyone is on the same level. Some kids have really big egos that make them feel surperior and some feel like they have to climb the ranks somehow but there really isn't any sort of ranking system here besides the fucking post count. Each and every person here is worth the same, everyone has unique insights and a unique set of music that is available to them. What makes this place a valuable resource is the exchange of those unique things that each person has. If all the kids who consider themselves elitists just stop then new ones will emerge, nobody here is truly elite and irreplacable, anyone who has been here very long has seen enough "elitists" come and go to realize that.

Sad.

I always thought Africa was a continent for animals only, they lived their peacefully and had sex day in day out... thats what they show on Discover Channel.

Oh, you are right about that. Never question the Discovery Channel. Africa is filled with only animals, and of the fiercest kind. The worst being my nemesis, Nkono Mbutetu. Nkono is the wildest monster you've ever seen in your life. He strikes fear in the hearts of men with abs of steel and sagging pants of parachute. With his sawed-off AK-47 he will gun you down without a second thought for the old blind woman walking in front of you. His do-rag shirt adds extra sleekness to his viperous appearance. Here he is, the fearsome Nkono Mbutetu, practicing an attack stance he learned from MTV Video Jamz, in front of him (out of picture) a brick wall with a baby painted on it:
