NDP Leader Jack Layton, responding to Paul Martin's promise to ban handguns said the Liberal promise doesn't go far enough and promised Canadians that his party would expand the ban to include water pistols and super soakers.

Potato guns would not be included under the NDP ban.

"Paul Martin's promise to ban all handguns is nothing more than smoke and mirrors," said Layton. "The people have been left with the impression that all handguns will be banned, but nothing could be further from the truth."

Layton said the ban does nothing for parents with children that are being terrified by bullies with water pistols and super soakers.

"He has given these parents false hope," said Layton, who promised to ban water pistols and super soakers if his party forms the next government.

If the NDP fails to from the next government, Layton said the NDP would likely hold the balance of power in a minority government. Under this set of circumstances, Layton said his party would hold a potato gun to the head of the governing party and force them to include an expanded handgun ban to include water pistols and super soakers.

Layton also made it perfectly clear that the NDP has a record of pulling the trigger in a minority government and warned his opponents not to take his idle threats lightly.

this is from the daily hog, but alot of time they were right as well

I think of the stuff I did as a kid, I would be in prison with multiple felonies and misdemeanors.

...and that was before I was 18
