1)Best Dj: for me it was Phil K.
2)Best Live p.a. :Infusion
3)Producer of the year:Habersham(love the productions, hate his dj sets)
4)Best party attended: Junkie xl @ h.o.b

The Bad
----------------------------------------------------------------
1.)Disappointment:Sasha,i hate to say it but i absolutely hated Fundacion and i just haven't dug his sets as of late...i don't know if musically i have moved past his sound and gone another direction...just doesn't rock my sox anymore.
2) Even More Disappointment:Hybrid, this being the year they have played some of their worst sets and really just mailing it in...i know they are better producers than dj's but at least show some effort or act interested. They are great guys,i love talking with them and hanging out but some things i can't get past anymore
3) So much talent out there that hasn't made an impact in the states..which suprises me(phil k.,nu breed, pqm, tipper, tom middleton, plump djs)

Looking to next year
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1) Scott yee getting more djing opportunities
2)hopefully a Phil k. vs. James Zabiela show in the states(if russia can get it why cant we)
3)Albums coming out this coming year:
Andy Page's artist album
Tom Middleton's artist album under the guise of Amba
Hybrid's new album with guest production by andy page and their score to the motion picture Catacombs
Nu Breed's installment of the Y4K series
Dj Shadow's untitled upcoming album
4)DESTROY MINIMAL
5) I need more Product .01...tracks they have out currently are fucking incredible

Exclamation Re: Re: Big In 2005

OK, here's mine..i don't do singles, so i'm not up on remixes and all that jazz.. just live sets are what i know... oh yea, and STFU about Madonna's album on my list.. that album is SICK.. whoever produced it really outdid themselves and brought genuine, quality house music back into pop

The Good
------------------------------------------------------------
1)Best Dj: Tie between Cattaneo/Masiello
2)Best Live p.a.: Infusion
3)Best party attended: Tie between Cattaneo @ Eleven50 and PVD @ Eleven50 (November Set)
4)Album of the year: Madonna: Confessions on a Dance Floor---just a totally awesome album of french house influenced dance tracks and her best album ever.
5)Essential Mix- Desyn Masiello
6)DJ mix cd: Hernan Cattaneo-Renaissance Masters Vol 1&2(The KING of basslines)
7)Favorite Recorded Live set-Hernan Cattaneo Live @ Kiss100

The Bad
----------------------------------------------------------------
1)Lawler's shift to electro and away from tribal.
2)The obession with electro house.. it's a nice style, but it's way overplayed right now, imo.
3)Tiesto getting so much attention from people who honestly have no clue what quality dance music is and starting thread after thread trying to tell us that DO know, why he's sooooo good.. please stfu and open your minds to some other fuking dj.
4)2 hour DJ sets in Atlanta.. this is bullshit.. before long, it'll be one hour and we're supposed to get excited about this... Promoters you gotta solve this problem..if you can't afford more than two hours, don't book them and if they won't play for more than two hours, MOVE ON to someone else cause there is a LOT of good talent out there right now that did not make it to Atlanta this year... I know you gotta make money, but you gotta take chances too...we're depending on you to keep our scene alive and create memorable parties for us... IMO

Looking to next year
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1) My new Atlanta based, Electronica record label...details l8ter
2) The return of TRIBAL TRIBAL TRIBAL...and TRIBAAAALLLLLLL!!!!
3) Electro's speedy departure back into a less visible style.
4) Scott's career...
5) Getting my stuff remixed by somebody famous, like JXL..hint hint
6) Tiesto's retirement from all that is EDM.

well mario, i used to respect your opinions on music, even though we share no way near the same taste. but now you have even lost the respect. your remixes of the year are pure puke.

also, i wish everyone would stop saying the word tribal. i would guess most couldn't define the genre if asked (not that i could).

Tribal fukin rules dude.. whether it's in prog, house, or trance, nothing compares to the intensity of the drums and those slammin, low end bass lines... something primal about it... like sick nasty floor romping ch00ns..

The Bad
----------------------------------------------------------------
1.)Paul van Dyk...didn't really care for his set in April @E50..his set during Ultra was so so...he some what made up for it last month @ E50..but overall TPOD2 was a flop imo.

2) Even More Disappointment:GrayArea...1 of the originals members left the band...they've gone away from their progressive house/break roots...and given in to a more rock & roll sound.

The Good

1. best dj: tie: hernan & phil. i cant decide damnit. hernan is the man at tracklisting, but phil has him beat technically and by his ability to think more outside the box...too bad he didnt do more though.
2. best producer: tough one, but based on the sheer number of mixes (upwards of 20?) and the ridiculous mix of not over yet, i would give it to Habersham. his beats are so inventive.
3. best party attended: this isnt tough. Yee @ 1150 (gabriel and dresden who?), best moment: standing in shock when I heard nick warren drop echo and the bunnymen.
4. album of the year: multiple organisms
5. dj mix cd: gu-028: shanghai. honorable mentions: phil k y4k, cattaneos renaissance 2, chris salt future house
6. best remixes: sub6 feat. michele adamson ra he ya (shulman remix), rnd burn (momu mix), green thumb versus jv grand theft vinyl (jv mix), vector 13 g.h.l.i.s. (chris salts faith restoration mix), pop shuvit conversations (shiloh mix), grace not over yet (habershams still not over reprise)
7. best original track: phil k and habersham cloudbrake. i know its old news, but it was released 2005 so i'll include it in this years list too!
8. best mashup havent been too impressed by any mashups.

The Bad/Sad

1. the killers mr brightside (thin white duke mix)
2. sasha get back to us when youve gotten over yourself and this treble-heavy sound.
3. armadas attempt to be progressive
4. 75% of electro: the atari-sounding shit and that funky stuff that sounds like background 80s porn tunes.

Looking forward to:

1. more yee
2. phil k in Atlanta (please?)
3. lostep album (still hoping! not holding breath, though)
4. more remixes from playing the angel
5. some nice dark prog breaks
5. more quality music, period.

p.s. someone let me know when/if tomiie gets back to his nubreed sound.

Posted by ghille on Dec-18-2005 10:30:

the good- finding the TA
