Laptop For Producing

Im looking for a good laptop that would work well with ableton live and something I could play some games on 2. Anyone have any suggestions of where to get 1 and its preferable if I can pay monthly for it. Ill probably buy some studio monitors/headphones/USB Soundcard so if anyone can suggest some of those 2 please.

if you plan on paying monthly, and want THE beast on the market.

I suggest the Dell XPS laptops line.

They are currently the fastest and best PC laptops on the market.

And since Apple has basically given up on their laptops (for now).

They're the best laptop out there.

A bit pricey though :/

Ok I just looked at it closely and this machine is a beast. 3000 for laptop is rape tho but its not so bad with monthly plan.

speaking of ableton, it's fackin haaaaarrrrddd!! any tutorials or guides out there to help? i have a pirated copy, but none of which are included.

dell's are pretty decent computers, pretty inexpensive too if you catch it during a promotion. i have an inspiron 600m, but find that it overheats like fuckkkk.

the pirated copy will never work 100% since you cannot update it(done on purpose)That being said the only reason i came into this thread is because i thought it was about lapdances.I think i have an e manual for abbleton somewhere...if i find it i'll share.

pfffffff, i mean WHO would actually do that?

Posted by malek on Dec-14-2005 03:51:

the latest Laptop PCs destroy the best of Mac's laptops.

They destroy them so much, that Apple decided to drop the G4/G5 platform and switch to intel processors so it can continue selling powerful computers.

(this is a very simplified version of the story don't start telling that I don't know shit or i'll rape your sister)

have you tried fruity loops? reason? Cubase??

Posted by Dj Nacht on Dec-14-2005 23:47:

Fruityloops Is ok but I dont like it. Reason is good but I hate it at the same time because it has no VST support. As for Cubase well I tried to learn it last year and it was 2 confusing. I think my favorite software is BuzzMachine and orion Platinum. Im trying out ableton since I heard good stuff about it but if anyone has negative comments about ableton please explain.

Posted by Deluca on Dec-18-2005 16:59:

Hey Nacht

I'm making the jump up to logic cuz, reason after awhile is limited with the presets and no VST support, also sound quality is no where near professional programs like cubase or logic (many people write the songs in reason and rewire it into logic or cubase.) Also ableton doesn't have the biggest preset library compared to other programs, which means you have to spend money on the plug-ins, or sound design it yourself using Operator (the tutorials are decent, but you REALLY have to know what you're doing to find the sound you want). But ableton is big on live use, so if you want to just produce, theres better programs. Another point is if your importing your own sound clips, ableton can stretch sound like fkn Gumby, and its got great effects. Theres no doubt that ableton rocks it just depends what you want to do. IMO
hope that helps a bit

IMac G5 20" inch rocks
Mac has my vote

It doesnt matter what you use.

Luke Dzierzek made some craazy songs with ableton, and silver planet recs have been bombarding the digital download scene with promos. Excuse me for sayin this, but his Echo single is like no other.

Anyways, back to my point. I've been using reason for years, and I have to say, if you think it lacks in quality, you'd be wrong. Reason is a virtual studio, that is to say that you'll have to design your sounds as you would in a real studio, and never under estimate the power behind it's wiring, it's just crazy what kind of sounds i can make hooking up an lfo's rate control voltage signals all over. And reason 3 now has it's own virtual midi controllers with programmable knobs and buttons, bringin the wiring sweetness even further. To second that, as mentioned above, you can rewire it into ableton to use those vsts. But to be honest I do my wave editing and vst application on steinberg's wavelab, and then export them onto reason as a single effectless wave, That way it don't lag mah comp. It's a midi sequencer, not a wave sequencer, and a freaking tight one too; gives you noice flexibility on sound sequencing.

Don't know shit about cubase so i wouldn't know!

I ONLY recommend a mac if you can afford to purchase ableton, reason, or logic, each being at least in the 3 digitl USDs.

I'd be less concerned with what laptop to buy, but more concerned with what sound card i will be using, and what midi controller that will go with it as oppose to the traditional mouse and keyboard, last thing you'd want is some standard sound card that could barely cover below 50hz and as high as 17khz. Firewire is a must too :P

chris thorpe once said " the best part of an audio system is between the ears ", so use your brain and all the resources you can get a hold of, and get to know them very very very well.

What limits your productions is what you know, not the software.
"Computers are dumb, they do what you tell them to do" - Jeff Goldblum

hope it helps

Hi Moe,

Apple has dropped its firewire in favor of USB. I wouldn't invest money on it.

Regards,

Malek

Good post Moe.

Dear Malek,

I love Apple. I'm holding a new ibook in my hands and I see a firewire port on the left, care to explain? :P

Love,

as far as audio program: i use Acid Pro and it does what i want. i never really produced anything, but its cool if you want remix stuff. you know typical newb trance/minimalistic techno lover stuff. Have a great Peurf.--Bo
