Good songs for testing the audio quality...

Of my new Mp3 player! By that I mean songs that have crystal clear highs, crispy middle frequencies and a really punchy, groovy bass.

Or at least one of the mentioned. Name some.

Delerium feat. Jael - After All (Svenson and Gielen)
Astral - Now & Forever
Lennox - Flyin' Amongst The Stars
Paradise - See The Light (Kenny Hayes Remix)
Darren Tate - Prayer For God
Danny Howells - Breathe (Cella Dwellar's mix)
Max Graham - Automatic Weapon

Btw, what mp3 player did you get in the end?

I've got the THX theme you see in cinema before your movie starts

i would suggest a well produced album along the lines of Leftfield - Rhythm & Stealth or Hybrid - Morning Sci-Fi

best thing i ever found for testing a good sq (sound quality) car system, but can apply to other things:

pink floyd - high hopes

iAudio X5V, the one without radio. Quite nice, it has very clear and powerful sound.

I always thought 'System F - Exhale' was good for this.

When the main riff kicks in, even though it's just a lead melody it seems to fill the entire spectrum. Then when the kick and bass come back in, it still seems to be crystal clear.

Obviously you'd have to have the proper album version for it to be a fair test, because it's been expertly mastered.

Would a 320 mp3 rip of it do? Kind of hard to play CDs on an mp3 player.

moby - the ultimate fuck song

quality is measured by sound image and dynamic range, not which frequencies hit the loudest...

The New London School of Electronics - The Deepest Cut

Hybrid - Wider Angle album

Its mix of electronic beats and orchestral melodies would test any system!

L.S.G.-Netherworld (Oliver Prime Remix)

Dave Matthews Band

Deep Dish - Say Helllo (original mix)

just kidding, this has horrible audio quality. I listened to this on an lp the other way and it was just wretched except for the U.K. club mix that is crystal clear.

Anyway some other good audio rich music could be:

Saltwater - The Legacy (alphazone remix)
Sarah McLachlan - Afterglow Album <---This has a lot of acoustic lows that you might find great for testing your bassy areas.

Sadly 50 cents album is produced really well, you can check that out...

TPOD2 - the mastering is awesome.

anything off Emotional Technology by BT is quality production.

I think Ronski Speed productions in particular are an excellent source to refer to. His tunes are always incredibly clean sounding and well mixed/mastered.

Yeah of course - I didn't mean it actually had to be playing from the CD.
I just meant it would be best if it came from an MP3 rip of the album rather than a rip of the vinyl which may be differently mastered.

All in all though it probably doesn't matter that much, I'm just being picky.

Why not really test the bass? There's only one track worthy.

LFO - LFO

I bet your mp3 player can't handle the LFO!

Posted by Trazedict on Dec-16-2005 21:05:

how about something along the lines of like...
James Talk - Beef Curtains

If the quality is right, bliss will unfold.

Posted by MarathonMan on Dec-17-2005 10:08:

Bliss will certainly unfold when you're going down on a nice set of beef curtains!

Apparently a lot of audio engineers swear by Goldie: 'Inner City Life' as the perfect track for this sort of thing. The dynamic range of this track is incredibly wide, it's got an amazingly clear sound, and the production and mastering is second to none.

Leftfield: 'Leftism' is also a good choice and I can also imagine Hybrid: 'Wide Angle' doing the job as well.
