another ear problem

ok about 3 days ago i was spinning in the house party ( which is not very loud )for about 8 hours on next day my left ear ( which is i use more often for cueing ) cant take a high frequency sound, even a falling spoon sound is really annoying ,i didnt hear any white noise sound ,its little bit hurt when i listen to high frequency stuff. i did take 2 days off not to listening to music and loud sound ( which is drive me crazy ) but still until now its feels the same, anybody had the same problem before? any suggestion im lil bit' paranoid rite now...

get to the quacks and get it checked out

right mate.

firstly get some decent earplugs asap!

second. i know what you mean. i have the same problem. it happened to me after firing a gun without using hearing protection..

you maybe one of these rare people who suffer from a condition known as 'hyperacusis'. search it on google..

i am sure its what i now suffer from. i dont want to go saying i know loads about it because its a very misunderstood condition... different people say different things..

its pretty much a hyper sensitivity to loud noise brought on from either sensitive ears, continued hearing damage or sometimes people are born with it.

from what ive read it is adviseable to use protection because loud noise just makes it worse.

my design tech teacher had it in college aswell..

i have just started using er-20 plugs and they make mixing in loud spaces a lot easier.

do some research. the doctors dont even know much about it because they said my hearing was fine. the hearing expert said otherwise but also said he didnt know much about hyperacusis.

if you think you do have it then dont worry yourself! loads of people have it and dont even know. your ears will get more accustomed to loud noise but only if you protect them and dont give em the abuse you have been! 8 hours is a long time..

sounds like an industrial form of deafness. these are often linked to loud noises. you guys will probably have difficulty listening to someone talking with background noise present.

yeah man, definatley get it checked out. and stop listening to loud noises for a while.

best thing is to wait till it heals. hopefully, this will happen. you will have learnt an important lesson... about loud music and effects on it's ears. (not to say that this was ur fault, u may well have the condition mentioned).

Hey, I actually go to school to be an audiologist (getting my phd right now) so I know all about this.

sounds like what you're reporting is symptoms of hyperacousis. I'd make an appointment with a local audiologist and get that checked out. You can look into getting musician's ear plugs from them too. These keep your ears safe while letting the music in.

it will not go back to normal fully! ears dont repair fully from things like tinnitus and hyperacusis. a better explanation is that they get acustomed to it or the situation lessens.

your ears will be prone for the rest of your life. they will get better but will go straight back to where they were or probably worse if you subject them to too more loud noise. normal day to day life you ll be fine! spoons dropping, loud car horns etc. but make sure you protect your ears in club environments and loud places in general.

if you dont protect your ears in obvious loud situations you will make the situation bad enough for things like day to day life to become annoying. things like babies crying etc.

my ears seem quite sensitive in normal conditions.. clubs i cant stand without wearing er-20's! be sure you dont end up like how i have..

i knew the doc would say there would be nothin wrong lol! read up on the internet and just wear hearing protection if audiologists are too expensive..

trogdor ; good for you! you have done the right thing.

uh... wikipedia seems to suggest that it's more of a psychological thing, rather than actual physical damage :s

well i dont think people should assume its not physical until that is proved.

most docuentation claims hyperacusuis is brought on due to a damaged or lower natural attenuation mechanism within the ear. a lot of the problems can be psycological- but i really think its wrong to start claiming that the whole thing is psycological using one source of information.

i dont imagine my ears to be hurting when a loud car horn or alarm goes off! and i certainly dont imagine my ears ringing after being in a club for half an hour! most people dont even hear ringing after two to three hours!

from my hands on experience with this awful condition i think it is physical.

why advise people against being safe rather than sorry?

Same shit happened to me when I had a fire cracker in my hand, proceded to throw it and it blew up right next to my ear. I had this really annoying ringing in my ears for a few days. Make sure to check out John 00 Fleming's website, since he talks in detail about ear plugs.
