FC Chelsea (ENG) - FC Barcelona (ESP)
-Could see repeat of last yr. Both teams are top of their leagues atm... Both have the quality, but I think Barca will win this time. Etoo is better than Drogba and Ronaldinho over Lampard.

FC Real Madrid (ESP) - FC Arsenal (ENG)
-Both teams not doing so good. Will have to see how Real reorganizes after Luxemburgo's departure. Arsenal might just be motivated to try for CL instead of Premiership considering Chelski has a lock pretty much. I'd say Arse will take this.

Werder Bremen (GER) - FC Juventus (ITA)
-Juve playing good. Werder Bremen barely made it through Group stage. Juve wins after Ibrahimovich make Werder Bremen's defence look like puppets.

FC Bayern Mnich (GER) - AC Milan (ITA)
-Milan's yr is not going well and Bayern Munich is on top of Bundesliga. Is Milan's defence finally showing its age? Still, with Kaka and Pirlo to supply and Shevchenko to put it in the net, Milan is still formidable. Hard to call, but I think Milan will take it barely.

PSV Eindhoven (NED) - Olympique Lyonnais (FRA)
-Repeat of last yr again... Personnel have changed a bit, with PSV looking a weaker side on paper, but never discount what Hiddink could do. Lyon have been known to slip up from time to time. I think I'll give this one to PSV.

AFC Ajax (NED) - Internazionale (ITA)
-Ajax not having a good yr domestically. Inter is looking pretty strong. I think Martins and Adriano is too quick for Ajax's defence. Inter to take it.

Benfica (POR) - FC Liverpool (ENG)
-Another interesting one. Benfica riding a high of beating Man U to reach to knockout stage, but Liverpool had a strong group stage. Can't see Liverpool screwing up so badly, now that Crouch seems to be able to score a bit.

Glasgow Rangers (SCO) - Villareal (ESP)
-Villareal will only lose if Forlan and Riquelme becomes inconsistent as they are known to fall for sometimes. Villareal to win.

Ajax will be crushed

Posted by Acid Circus on Dec-16-2005 19:52:

Villareal was considered the "weakest" team we could draw, in my book all the teams we could have drawn would provide extremely tough opposition. Getting through this tie depends on the Ibrox leg, we need a win without conceding and we need to shut down Riquelme to stand any chance of going through !

Posted by scAza on Dec-16-2005 21:10:

Pleased with Benfica, they put the scum out so I'll give them a clap at Anfield in the 2nd leg (providing I get a ticket)

I expect Arsenal to beat Real, and with a bit of luck Ronny can send Jose "I didn't see it" Moaninho home with a nice hat-trick

FC Chelsea [ENG] - FC Barcelona [ESP]
-We all know how good both teams are and what keyplyaers they've got. If they would play eachother right now, I would think that Barcelona is stronger and got their players in great shape. We'll see if Chelsea can play as good as they did last year, both in the defence in Spain and ofcourse at home where they scored 3 goals in like 19 minutes or something. The that will go through is the one that's got more passion and desire too go through.

Real Madrid CF [ESP] - FC Arsenal [ENG]
-Considering too the major changes in Real Madrid I would like too hold Arsenal as favourites in this one. It's still too early too judge both teams when they're not doing any good in the league. Why I'm currently holding Arsenal as favourites is that they've played terrifick in the Champions League (Yes, they had a easy group), Arsenal's also got the last match at home, which is very important.

Werder Bremen [GER] - FC Juventus [ITA]
-Werder Bremen has got one of the best strikers in Europe right now in Miroslav Klose. He's scored 16 goals in Bundesliga and is a very important player for Werder together with Ivan Klasnic, Johan Micoud and that guy from Southamerica, I always manage too forget his name. Anyways, Juventus has only lost too Bayern Mnchen and AC Milan so far this season, they've showed up some really great play lately and Trezeguet, Mutu, and Nedved has been amazing last couple of matches. Even Del Piero scores when he gets the chance, plays rarely though. Werder has too win over Juve at home to have a chance in Torino and that's a fact, for sure.

FC Bayern Mnchen [GER] - AC Milan [ITA]
-This is the most interesting match together with Chelsea's against Barcelona. I've seen both teams pretty much this season, especially Bayern. Milan is playing bad at the moment and hasn't really showed anything else than they doesn't deserve too be in the top of the Italian Serie A. I don't now if they're going for the Champions League again, but if they are, I think they're forced too win over Bayern and at least reach a semifinal or something. Ancelotti isn't having his nicest time at the club and both Maldini and Nesta is injured at the moment. Bayern's got Roque Santa Cruz on their injurylist, but they've got everything from Guerrero too Pizarro and Makaay. It'll be a very interesting match and I'm really looking forward too it. Bayern is mine favourites atm even though I know of what Milan can do.

PSV Eindhoven [NED] - Olimpique Lyon [FRA]
-Another repeat of last years Champions League meetings. Lyon is looking awfully strong and PSV has even though they've lost alot of important players got through too this round. I'll hold Lyon as favourites because they're really strong at the moment.

AFC Ajax [NED] - Inter Milan [ITA]
-I can't really see Ajax going through here, Inter has maybe got the easiest team too play against. But I'm still warning for Ajax because they're not playing very well in the league and I have a feeling that they still can go through here. Inter is a stronger team overall and has got Adriano that always seems too score important goals, that's why I will hold them as favourites.

FC Benfica [POR] - Liverpool FC [ENG]
-If Benfica can win at home without Liverpool scores in Portugal, then I think that they've got a great oppurtunity too go through. Liverpool is very strong at home and if they get a draw with they're boring play away, then it's going to be very hard for the portuguese too knock them out. Benfica has already knocked out Manchester United, and hopefully they'll knock out Liverpool too. Both teams favourites at home, this one may go too away goals and that kind of shit..

Glasgow Rangers [SCO] - Villareal CF [ESP]
-Finally a scottish team going through too the playoffs in the Champions League. They've already knocked out Porto who wasn't strong enough too go through. I know this one is very much up too Villareal, If Villareal starts too play sloppy, they will lose, otherwise they will go through and they're the better team on the paper. But we've all seen the British teams fight until the last second of the match. Everyone will probably hold Villareal as favourites, and they are, I still hope that Glasgow Ranges can make it through, just because they're underdogs in this match.

Don't forget these games are to be played in late February and early March. So plenty of time for teams to come from poor/great form sequences.

And here's another translated comment of mine from other forums :

Chelsea FC v FC Barcelona
Barcelona gets revenge after last year's defeat with a single goal in extra-time after two surprisingly boring 0-0s

Real Madrid CF v Arsenal FC
As much as I like Arsenal and hate Real, i don't believe it'll be this year they'll do something in the Champions League. Real still has a lot of individual ability

Werder Bremen v Juventus
I also like Bremen and dislike Juve, but the italians are playing at a magnificent level

FC Bayern Mnchen v AC Milan
Very hard to predict this game.. Bayern is clearly in better form this moment, but Milan in the Champions League is always a strong contender, they always go far in the competition

PSV Eindhoven v Olympique Lyonnais
Despite in the last year PSV having won this game, I don't have big doubts about who is the best team. Another revenge.

AFC Ajax v FC Internazionale Milano
Ajax are very, very far from what they've used to be. Inter to win this easily.

SL Benfica v Liverpool FC
Benfica suprises again, knocking out the title holders and confirming the recent tendency of the english getting sistematically beaten by the portuguese. This before Benfica is totally crushed in the quarters by whoever-team-is-drawn-against-them, in a round similar to Vigo a couple years ago [Benfica lost to Celta 7-0 in UEFA Cup].

Rangers FC v Villarreal CF
Villarreal sweats a lot to win even playing against an awful team, reaching the quarter finals with no glory.

... because Villarreal fans are bandwaggoners, arrogant, quiet and apathetic. They've been always a 3rd Division team, with no fanbase, but one day, a millionaire redneck put the money on the table, changed the uniforms, the hymn, and we know the rest...

Go Rangers

Do you mean "beaten by awful refereeing decisions"?

I seem to remember a certain ex-pat portugese manager being made to cry like the baby he is, at Anfield last year, and being rightfully put into 2nd place by Stevie, Carra' and co in our group this year

Barcelona - In Another Tight Derby Style 2 Legs
Arsenal - Even Though They Suck This Year....Puto Power Is Worse
Juvenuts - Werder Bremen...nigga please..Juve to crush
Bayern - Milan eh not lookin like their year eh boys get em next year
Lyon - Strong & Yet Still Underrated By Some
Ajax - Yeah Right....Inter - Murder In Amsterdam Coming In Febuary
Benfica - Liverpool To Be Upset....I Can Smell It...Or Is That Crouch
Villareal - Gonna Make Rangers Look Foolish

Portugal - England, Euro 2000
Portugal - England, Euro 2004
Portugal - England, U-20 Toulon
FC Porto - Man United
Sporting - Newcastle
Sporting - Middlesbrough
Benfica - Man United

Yes, we were helped by the ref when we beat Man Utd as he didn't allow a clean goal for them, and the Euro 2004 game was doubtful. But you're surely not saying every one of these games was due to the refs?

Posted by scAza on Dec-17-2005 13:58:

I couldn't even remember the other games mate haha

Obviously with your National teams continuous lack of success, including when you were hosts lat year, you hold onto things like "u-20 tournament" victories over England

I wasn't at all trying to get a rise out of you english with the original statement, but since you've picked on it i'll answer you in your own way:

Obviously with your national teams continuous lack of success since that lonely world cup, including when you were hosts in 1996 and did worse than us by not reaching the final, you hold onto things like "awful refereeing decisions".

Posted by scAza on Dec-17-2005 15:09:

lonely world cup?

as if its something to be sniffed at?

arent there only about 8 teams have EVER won it?

here's a bold statement for you... Portugal will NEVER win it

Posted by noikeee on Dec-17-2005 15:45:

We never won it, we must be shit.
Holland never won it, they must be shit.
Czech Rep never won it, they must be shit.
Spain never won it, they must be shit.
Uruguay won it, they must be awesome.

Posted by scAza on Dec-17-2005 15:47:

this is where you look a bit of a fool, coz I never said you were shit

Posted by noikeee on Dec-17-2005 15:52:

You have already looked like a fool when you bringed "continuous lack of success" into the discussion when my statement had only to do with *RECENT* games. England were 50 times better than us at other points in history, i have no problem admitting that.

Posted by scAza on Dec-17-2005 15:58:

Why do I look a fool?

Does the Portugese National team not have a continuous lack of success ??

Correct me if I'm wrong but even with Eusebio you didn't win anyting did you? And you've NEVER won anything?

England on the other hand, have won a world cup, which was nice, if admittedly a long time ago now

Lets just wait til the first leg and see if we are "systematically destroyed" by another Portugese team

Yes, but so does your team. And we actually have never had the goal of winning tournaments until recently, unlike your team.

I never said this wasn't true.

Liverpool are favourites for sure. But I'm betting on Benfica to make another upset

Posted by scAza on Dec-17-2005 16:09:

Ok, "England have had a continuous lack of success since winning a World Cup 40 years ago", if it makes you feel better

Surely you want to win every competition you're in though? Who goes into tournaments thinking "careful lads, don't score too many, try lose if possible" ?

PS: I know what you meant, I'm just kidding
