I just got paid, and I want monitors

Alright. I have 500-600 bucks. I don't want used monitors- so what can I get that's quality for around that much? I know that there's been lots of threads about monitors, but I'm talking about a very specific price range here.

OH SNAP!

Good monitors, exactly in your price range

I don't have more than 600 to spend, unfortunately, or I'd grab those! I just spent 500 on a synth, so after this monitor purchase I'm totally done.

I am so used to the fact that everything is that cheaper in USA that I completely forgot to check to see if it's pair or single speaker.

Anyway, for that kind of money 8" KRK Rokits are supposedly the best buy. A friend just got a pair and I must say I was very impressed.

Check out the Tapco S5 and S8's. They are made by mackie and deliver a very true sound for their price tag. Just bought a pair and am pretty impressed by their flatness. I A/B'ed them against Alesis M1, Tannoys 5a and Yammi MSP5's and they came out on top. Didnt seem to excite the sound as much as the others and I could hear much further into the mix.

Have heard some decent things about the KRKs too but didnt get a chance to listen to any. Would be worth a listen too I'd say.

I'll be picking up a pair of KRK 6s in the next week... I've found they're the best audio representation for my studio space. IMO, the m-audio didn't seem to have the same volume output while staying accurate overall.

note: If you have or will be using a sub with your system, don't bother going with the 8" drivers... go with either 5" or 6". If you don't plan on it, then the 8" are the best bet.

just don't get the m-audio bx-anything.... all i gotta say is those suck.

I just got a couple hundred more bucks and at a friend's suggestion I'm getting the Mackie HR624s. I couldn't resist. Woot.

So I finally picked up my KRK RP6s.... and all I can say is...

OMG... these are the cleanest, fullest speakers I've ever owned. The full frequency response is incredible... best purchase I've made in 2005...

Highly recomended...

I just got a pair of Yamaha HS-50M. They will beat any M-Audio or KRK's hands down. Take your fav cd to Guitar Center or any audio shops that sell these to find out for yourself.

Lots of laughs @ you!

You're trying to say a 170$ monitor beats a 872$ monitor? (KRK V8 MKII). It's plain stupid to make statements based on nothing.

A pair of Yamaha HS-50M will cost ya $400.00. Sorry for my vague sense in the earlier post... I am not comparing a 5" with 8". I am comparing 5" monitors under $400.00 for a pair. Guitar Center had a lineup of KRK-5, Yamaha HS-50M and M-Audio Studiophile BX5a and I swear the Yamaha HS-50M sounded a lot flatter & better compared to the other two. Well I guess it depends on your taste of music and what sounds you like to hear. I was playing a Asian Underground cd. After I got the Yamaha's, another guy popped a Rock cd and listened to all three and he also liked Yamaha's but GC didn't have any more so he special ordered it. Actually b4 I went into GC my mind was set on the KRK-5 after reading numerous posts & reviews in 5-6 diff forums. But things changed after what I heard. I am not trying to be biased but going back to the person who started this thread, "armanivespucci" I guess I would goto a store that has a nice range of monitors, take your fav cd, listen to all the monitors they have, see what best fits ya style, and your budget of course & then make a decision on what to buy. Simple as that.

Anyways Chronosis, have you personally tried Yamaha HS-50M yourself?

Nope, I haven't.

Keep in mind, you're not necessarily looking the "best sounding" speakers... you're looking for the most accurate audio representation. You're also looking for an evenly balanced frequency range... which you can't hear in a store. In addition, each speaker will vary depending on the accoustics of the room in which they're used.

That said... I've never used the Yamahas, so I'm not knocking your opinion whatsoever... I just haven't heard/seen much about them... this is more of a tip to others looking to purchase...
