i'd make have a camera team chasing around radagast for 24hours and then i'd edit it together to the sound of fenslau's hessentag set. and also some chopped up imagery of tiesto taking a dump on armin and then paul & paul pissing on both and then carl coxtopus would swing by and eat everyone up. ok maybe not

if this can be true, I want write the script for it. I just need a digital8 camcorder, and lots of interviews. What will you not include? Personally, I would cut out the bitching from people about "cheesey trance music". However, I would like to include "Tiesto in Concert" and the bitching behind all that.

thats imaginative. It should be based upon the producers who began producing other genres and molded trance into the way it is now. A documentary with the history of the music from those who made it, the germans primarily and hte european influence

Posted by limin_li on Dec-18-2005 06:29:

American, Detroit Techno Darrik May influence....

BT = HE, not they ffs!

anyway you would have to include the rise of profilic labels such Eye Q Records, MFS, Superstition, Platipus etc.

include producers and djs which s3nate mentioned in his post.

we're talking about trance production not looping techniques

Posted by limin_li on Dec-18-2005 06:40:

ohh only if this idea can come true......

Posted by LieberDJ on Dec-18-2005 06:45:

we have had many documentaries focused on north america and its underground club culture. The european influence is definatley under rated

If I do this documentary, I will need a lot of support from TA. Cough Cough, Swamper and all you other cats with connection to top djs/producers

alot of thought, time and research will hopefuly go alright. doco's can be hard to do but can be really good when done right.

Music Research forgotten once again.

hmmmm

I think it would be neat to explore some of the meanings and ideologies that the trance crowd carries, see if you can find common traits among the masses who enjoy this style of music. Ask alot of "why" questions. I find that alot trance fans are visionaries, they see the potential for a future and they see trance as one of the ways they can get there.

Posted by TJM on Dec-18-2005 23:07:

Gatecrasher
Van Dyk
Cream
Oakenfold

All already mentioned but these were the heartbeat of the scene at its peak and so deserve the greatest attention.

hah!

happy to cover how shit it is in Australia for u....

it's all heavily commercialised, cheesey crap. Even the house. Ur stuffed if u try to find good prog here...

The stuff in club is like all the shitty cheap trance CDs u can find. like "clubbers essentials 2004" or something etc. which is full of cheesy, poor, commercially productions like "Dj Sammy - Heavan" etc. it's catered for the pop tastes of ppl who just want to dance, and don't care about the music.

hard to explain (though Heavan isn't too bad a track), but u know what i'm talking about.

It depends on what you're going for. Trance has enough subsets now that even a summary of every subset would be a lot longer than you're looking for.

You could do a documentary of the goa movement, for instance with Interviews with goa gill and Juno Reactor up to the heydey with Man With No Name, etc. Find footage of old goa parties, take some footage from Israel, and so on. Or maybe you could expand into the "death" of goa, and even include the development of psytrance, if just goa didn't provide enough material.

This is just one idea, though. Try to get a focus, though. A particular time in trance, or a particular figure. Don't worry about it being one-sided. Documentaries aren't supposed to befair representations. A lot of the time, they're propaganda. Bowling for Columbine and Fast Food Nation, for instance.
