Flashing amber lights

I came across a flashing amber traffic light earlier today.

let me stress this yet again for idiot toronto drivers who need to retake their driving courses...

FLASHING AMBER TRAFFIC LIGHTS SHOULD NOT BE TREATED AS A 4 WAY STOP

Flashing amber means proceed with caution and the flashing red facing the other direction should be treated as a stop sign. The only time a disabled traffic light should be treated as a 4 way stop is when THERE ARE NO SIGNALS AT ALL (ie the power is out)

I almost got into an accident because some idiot assumed i was going to stop and decided to drive out right in front of me as i went through an amber light (he had a red light)

If he had a red light, what does it matter what you had? He couldn't go regardless. And how did he see that you ahve an amber light anyway?

they were flashing lights and most people were treating it as a 4 way stop. Even those with the amber light. So he assumed that i was treating it as a 4 way stop when in fact i excersized my right of way.

I agree that it is wrong to treat it as a four way stop....but I would rather see people stop and proceed with caution then some of the idiots out there that just keep going 80 km/hr right through the intersection.

On another note earlier tonight (9:05ish) I saw some douchebag on a bicycle riding around near my house while I was on my way home.

Coming up to a 4-way stop (no lights, just stopsigns) I was like "I hope he goes right through it." A Ford Focus opposite me was turning left just before I was to go straight through, and surely enough the dumbass on the bike went right through, and nearly got absolutely creamed.

I secretly wished that the Focus would have nailed him and maybe fuckstarted his head a bit.

You're missing the point... the problem isn't with the people who have the amber light (or no stop sign) and treat it as a stop sign. The problem is with the people who have the red light (the stop sign) and treat it as a 4-way stop, not checking to make sure the intersection is clear before accelerating again.

It's fine if you don't have a stop sign but treat the intersection as a 4-way stop anyway (although it's very annoying to people behind you); however, it is not fine if you do have a stop sign and assume for no reason that drivers going the other way will also stop.

except that i refuse to stop at the amber light. Its exactly the same as stopping at a green light to let someone turn.
