So I got me a PSP

Well, Yesterday morning, I went along with my mother since we doing some Christmas shopping. And I got myself a Sony PSP as an early Christmas present, However, I don't have any games for it, Since, It only came with a demo disc that shows videos of the resent games. Anyways I did some careful research on the PSP homebrew scene thats out there, And sure enough, Depending on which firmware your PSP has, You can run some homebrew applications such as emulators for Genesis, NES, Or even SNES, I loaded this NES emulator, And now I can play all those old NES games like Super Mario Bros right on the PSP, Heres a pic to prove it.

Indeed, But mines only came with a 32MB memory card though, However, They have 1GB or 2GB memory cards for it now, So you can load all kinds of stuff in it like MP3s and Video as well, But it supports the MPEG4 format for the video playback.

And 4GB cards! No idea how well they work...

There are loads of MPEG4 encoders out there now though.

Yeah, You can even put a full movie on there if you have one of those 1GB cards, They have software that lets you rip your own DVDs then convert the video to MPEG4.

With the larger memory cards you can copy games over to it now too. There is a program that will "load" the game data onto the mem card. Works very much like the PS2 program, "HD Loader", which "rips" the PS2 disk and stores the data on a hard drive. All you need to do to run the games is insert the HD Loader disc and select the game you want to play.

I can't wait to see some of the stuff that comes out in the future for PSP, I love the idea of having console emulators running on it. Gives me a ton of selection when I'm on the fly and want to get my game on.

Yeah, All that could be possible with Homebrew, The problem is, Sony every once in a while releases a new version of the Firmware where you have to update it if you want to play some of the newer games, Once you install the latest firmware, All your homebrew apps will stop working, Since they are trying to stop people from hacking there PSPs.

There are already work-arounds for that issue. I think there is a patch that will trick the PSP into thinking it's running an older version, so you can run the emulators but is still able to play all the games that require the latest patch. Don't worry, they'll always find a way to make it work.

The PSP is amazing though, I just wish it would get some more quality titles. I own Lumines, Twisted Metal: Head On, Mercury, Wipe Out Pure and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories so far.

OK, so this thread has made me decide to go out and get one of these, but one question, anyone know if they've got the work around for version 2.0 of the firmware figured out yet? I really don't want to take the time to search for one with the old firmware, but really the only reason I'd get one of these things is for classic gaming emulation on the go...

They have homebrew version 2.0 of the firmware, You can read more about the homebrew and such on this site http://pspupdates.qj.net/
