Next you should get him the 30th anniversary SACD and an SACD player unless he already has it. Listening to DSOM in digitally remastered surround is amazing although hearing the original analog record is great as well.

He asked for the CD, but I thought he might like having the vinyl (he has a rather large collection) more. He has a burner attached to his stereo for easy ripping and has backed up most of his music onto cd-r. My dad is also deaf in one ear as a result of combat in Vietnam, so surround sound may only be to a partial advantage.
