id argue that the scene is bigger in south america now. I think europe has really slowed down lately.

Oh yeah! I seen videos of last years Love Parade in Santiago + alot of other parties there, such as PVD. The best website for parties in Chile is www.trance.cl I was planning on going there this January, but will end up going next year because the plane ticket was a little too much considering other priorities, but luckily I know people that live in Santiago & have a place to stay. I seriously recommend to anyone that can go - to go.

I am really not suprised that the EDM scene is huge in Chile, because most people there really do love to party & dance. Many New Years parties there last for 3 days. Also unlike here, alot of older people actually attend the events, instead of complain about them. There are also alot of local DJ's in Santiago, Chile that are really good too, especially considering psy-trance.

uh...what?
Toronto is not the party capital of North America.
This is why no one even entertains the idea of have a LP here.

so.. what ur saying is that toronto would need to become a party capital just to get one of those big parties here?

because i dont get ur post..

yeah.. but europe is KNOWN for its scene..even techno is a culture.. a lifestyle.. trance is huge there.. think about ibiza.. harlem nights.. creamfields.. i love techno events.. love parades.. those big raves they trow under huge and long tunnels.. raves here and there.. ET fucking C.. you know no matter how fast/slow they get.. they will always have AT LEAST 3 huge events each year..

events in south america are getting bigger and bigger and bigger and better.. but as i said before.. people here and there would fly to europe to see more djs and bigger parties.. so far chile and argentina hold real sweet events.. the rest of the countries are getting really good djs like peru and colombia im not sure about the rest if the countries.. but we are on our way.. good thing we dont have those idiotic laws toronto does..

obiously if they keep things this way.. it'll be easier and cheaper for me to check out those events..

we used to be... then the big crackdown happened. And it looks like they are about to hit the clubs even harder pretty soon.

Sorry guys but Toronto sucks more and more.

That is exactly what I'm saying.
Organizers aren't going to pick a city which has a sinking scene. San Fran, Miami, NYC - all better choices than TO.
Sad but true!

still not really the capital of the world. They would have to destroy Ibiza, parts of Holland and other spots to become the #1 party capital of the world

basicly.. toronto scene is sinking for u. what makes you think that?

i wouldny say the scene is sinking.. because i'm able to hit a club with edm every weekend.. every friday saturday those we dance events on sundays.. we have tons and tons of locals djs and headliners at least 3 times a month.. sometimes even 4 and sometiems 2 or 3 big names on the same night..

be thankful ur not in new jersey.. a friend told me there is only one club with edm in HIS city.. first floor trance/house and techno.. second floor rnb.. hip hop..

and trust me.. dancing to house then switching to trance and bumping techno is not my cup of tea.. that is why im pretty happy here.. we have diff clubs and nights for each genre.. which makes it even better..

also remember that a lot of you trance addicts hit alot of parties.. add the non trance addict people.. and we have a pretty sweet crowd to fill a love parade..

all I said was Toronto is not the party capital of North America.
I never said it was as bad as places like new jersey.

Why do I think our scene is sinking? Because of the clubs that are closing - Element, Roxy, System. Because of the local DJs I know that don't get booked anymore that used to get regular gigs.

When you are just involved in the scene from a partiers perspective, going to events and leaving, then yeah - you still have a bunch of options. But many of my friends are DJs, promoters or others with a vested interest in the scene and unfortunately the general consensus is that things aren't on the upswing right now. Many people involved in this business in Toronto are struggling with the exception of a few.

Back to the love parade - just because you go out and see a bunch of TAs at guvernment doesn't mean this city could support something like Love parade! Love Parade in other cities attracts thousands and thousands of people. The liklihood of that happening if it were held in TO is not as likely as in other North American cities, like those I've mentioned.

Posted by jester on Dec-21-2005 18:38:

True... Central America gets its fair share of big name djs, still wont touch anything like the USA or Canada, imo. Shit I could be wrong.

what makes you think i know nothing about the business.. because ur a dj and im not? well i have loads of friends.. and im well informed..

who cares about tas.. i said that refering to the number of people who hit clubs on a regular basis.. they were just a example to tell you that we have large amounts of people craving for something like that to happen..

Do you dispute the fact that 3 major venues have closed over the last year or two then?
That is the biggest sign of a scene in decline. Venues closing their doors. People out of work.

some closed.. some opened.. and some regular clubs have house nights.. trance nights.. and so on..

well nothing last forever.. there are still other clubs here in toronto.. and enough places to hit on a regular basis..

this is no secret.. the scene in South America and Australia hav been blowing up in the past 5 years or so .. a lotta big European promoters are bringin their massives and large scale events to these destinations..

i think it's only been just recently that they've been getting a lot more publicity and exposure than the usual Ibizas and etc..

i have to agree with her nothing lasts forever, and just being a dj doesnt say much, even though your in the buisness, you may have just seen the bads and heard bad things, doesnt mean others arent booming.
