Official - Best tune/release and worst tune/release of 2005 thread

Ive decided its official, anyway. Even though it really isnt.

Ok the year is more or less up, lets hear what you think is ->

1) The best track you first heard this year.
2) The best release of the year.

3) The worst track you first heard this year.
4) The worst release of the year.

GIVE REASONS

I would say dont flame, but this being Modern TA, I reckon there'll be a few pages of general niceness before a fight.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Best track: Digital Blonde - ID (Lions Weep)

There still isnt a name for this, it'll be on his album next year hopefully, but Ive just called it Lions Weep due to the vocals. I fucking love this. Banging track with an insane synth. Would destroy any club.

2) Best release: Hybrid - Bootlegs

A lot of people wont agree with this, but the 4 Hybrid remixes that were released on Digital Download this year by far is the best release. Finally, after years of waiting, full copies of their Doves & REM remixes. Brilliant release. Mauro Picottos Darkroom comes in close, as Ive been waiting for that for 3 years.

3) Worst track: Kuffdam & Plant - Summer Dream (Whiteroom remix)

If ever you wanted a defination of "fluffy crap", listen to this. Now the original/Pvd remixes are passable, but this is just shit. You can hardly hear the synth, and to make this, Andy & Adam must have been smoking something bad. Its shite.

4) Worst release: Gabriel & Dresden - Tracking Treasure Down

I hate this. This release is a disgrace to trance. Awful vocals and utter crap underneath it. Its a failed attempt at marketing trance to the mainstream, and I cannot comprehend why so many people like it, and why its being whored so much. Lots of people are misguided.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok thats my lot. Your turn.

Didn't expect much of those, but they're both crap and I hate them both. Good suggestions btw.

Smiley DJ Best and worst of 2005

The_Chris hit the nail on the head with the worst release of 2005,
Tracking Treasure Down by Gabriel & Dresden is an absolute disgrace to Trance music, it sounds like some corny british pop rivaling the spice girls for it's cheesyness.
My favorite track so far of 2005 is one of 2 songs. Like A Waterfall by Solarstone feat Jes, or S.O.S. (festival re-edit) by Armin Van Buuren.

Peace out y'all...

Reasons eh?

1) Alpha 606 - Domino

It's everything man. IT'S EVERYTHING. The claps, the bass, the bongos, the percs, the drum programming. THIS TRACK IS THE FUNKY GROOOOOOVE BABY! Listening to this track is like eating a ham. A sweet sweet ham.

2) MAS 2008 - Electric Twilight

It's everything man. IT'S EVERYTHING. The bass (esp on Synthetic Lights), the percs, hi-hats, the VOCODERS (esp on Boy From The Other Side), the drum programming (esp on Monochrome). The funky basslines (esp on Lifeform). Every track is like a hearty slice of Electro pumpkin pie being shoved down my asshole on Christmas EEEEEEEEVE MOTHER******RRRRRRR!!!!!! TO THE EXTREEEEEEME!

3) I dunno because I don't remember bad tracks, but it was probably by Ferry Corsten

I'll name the good, because I don't have the heart for the bad.

1) Chemical Brothers - Galvanize

This has it all. It's a big-room banger that has lots of mainstream appeal, which is what the Chems have always done well. After their last album did poorly, they really needed a strong come-back single, and this was absolutely superb.

2) Pendulum - Slam

The whole album was good, but this was especially notable. A brilliantly rambling intro leaves you wondering what's going to happen, and the orchestral hip-hop part alone is genius. When it drops, this is awesome: huge riffs, scorching basslines and the right amount of drama and daftness.

3) Tilt - Twelve

Okay, trance may be a bit shit at the moment, but to totally disprove Ishkur's crackpot theory that it's just nostalgia driving us, there was some great stuff. This was the best, and it's an ace trance record all the way through.

Tracking Treasure Down is supposed to be trance? This is news to me.

Fave track Parallel Sound - Beyond Your Soul (HOPE)

Haunting bassline and haunting vocal that just kicks your ass into submission

Fave release = see above

worst track = Guffdam and Plant - Summer Dream

awful fluffy shite that needs to be dropped into the fire.

Posted by RapidFire on Dec-23-2005 03:25:

No way TTD is the absolute WORST. Its bad, yeah but Shivers is twice as ear numbingly bad

Posted by john2 on Dec-23-2005 14:28:

1) Niklas Harding Presents Arcane - Red Jewel (Original Mix)

Posted by THE_Chris on Dec-23-2005 19:06:

I cant believe my thread is still only 1 page long.

Disgrace, the lot of ya

Posted by Snooper on Dec-23-2005 20:24:

1) Alaska (aka Laurent Garnier) - Lost In Alaska (The Eurotrancey Mix)
Excellent old-school techno from mr Garnier, from his Early Works album.

2) The Orb - Okie Dokie It's The Orb On Kompakt

3 & 4) After I stopped listening to new trance releases the bad tunes have become far less frequent, but my guess would be something by Armin van Buuren or Markus Schultz (or Whiteroom or Filo & Peri or....you name it).

Posted by capricorn15 on Dec-24-2005 01:49:

not sure about the worst, but for the best

1) bent - as you fall
2) orchid - technicolour ep 1 and 2

Might be because the difference between "track" and "release" is rather vague.

i am so happy to see this, i think i will not take part.

Ernesto&Bastian - Dark Side of the Moon (Dogzilla's Pure Filth mix)

I can't think of any crap tracks because I just switch off when I hear one and don't care what it's called.
