building a desktop PC...what soundcard?

I'm going to be building a PC and I am wondering which sound card i should select. I have an external card right now on my current computer since it has a built in sound card.

When I build this new computer, I would like a card that is built into the case of the computer and has the white/red RCA holes so that I can connect directly to my mixer.

I dont want a laptop. I dont want an external card.

Ok mate, firstly need to know what you plan on using it for:

Will you be producing tunes using programs like Reason and Cubase?
Do you want only high quality 2 channel sound as a pose to a multi-channel one (i.e Creative X-Fi series as a pose to say M-Audio or EMU)
What is your budget?
Do you mind having a soundcard which has a breakout box which is connected to the soundcard that sits near or on top of your PC?

Answer some of those mate and should be easier to suggest what would be best for you. Bare in mind a lot of cards do have break out boxes, but if u want just an internal box that sits into a 5 1/4" bay thats also possible.

I use an M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496. It's cheap and gets the job done. If you aren't going to be producing music on your computer and only recording it might be a bit of overkill. I bought it to use with Cubase SX because I needed an ASIO compatible card.

i like my audigy 2 platinum for recording. if i was going to be producing, i'd probably go for an m-audio... but this is fine for recording sets.
