MUNICH
Just saw the film and thought it was great for the most part.
Steven Spielberg really tried to balance this film out between the two sides... sometimes a little too much as not to place too much weight solely on the "Palestinian" Arab actions in this event.
I also didn't like how he portrayed the shin bet. as if they are a group of amateurs. I know how the shin bet runs and it was false to portray them as softies... these men in real life arent soft by any means. they know their mark... they dont ask questions they just execute plans. They would never hesitate to eliminate a terrorist.
They also made it seem like the government didn't give a shit about what he did for them... Israel definitely honours its soldiers/leaders.
Overall a good film... some really intense moments... could have did with less "Hollywood." As an Israeli, and a citizen of a democratic world who believes in equality amongst men; it has strengthened my resolve in our war on terror.
What did you guys think of it?
Loved it, just came back, very tired though. I thought it portrayed the events with great and deep emotion. Will write a small review laters. Definatly recommended.
i didn't think it was balanced at all...in what way was it balanced?
i thought it was a pretty good movie, but some parts like the ending sex scene were a little stupid...

there are just a lot of subtle things in the movie like dialogs justifying their view of the war. the entire movie is basically an attempt at justifying jewish violence by calling it retaliation, when the violence towards the state of israel is also retaliation for the formation of a political state that muslims feel is unjust. speilberg is biased in any movie he makes with jewish undertones, just as anyone commenting on any subject which they are directly connected would be. i have nothing against the state of israel, but i can understand the anger at its formation. i don't think jewish people have any stronger claim to it than the muslim's.
Ok and? What, you want him to make a movie praising their struggle against Israel? Not going to happen. Movie was excellent at portraying the events that occured and Spielberg once again proves himself to be a strong successor to the throne Kubrick left behind.
did i say that i didn't like the movie? no. just when an israeli starts a thread about it and says how balanced it is...
well...no i don't think so.
perhaps it is best to say, it is as balanced as i'd care for it to be, then.
I'm suprised that being a Hollywood film it didn't involve the US sending in Delta force and saving the athletes!

or state something like "origonally the Olympics were invented in the USA but there is some dispute as to the Greeks having a 'similar' set of events predating the Los Angeles Olympics which are widely accepted as being the first..."
I liked it, BUT... being alive at the time of the massacre I dont think it portrayed the events so fairly.
I didn't like the comparision between the Mossad and the arab terrorists. Speilberg has actually taken alot of flack for attempting to portray both sides equally.
IMO he is trying to inject his own political agenda and is trying to use the movie as a vehicle for peace in Israel.
I have no problem with that, but I dont he should be saying this in this movie. He should be trying for peace in Isarel outside of his movies, and speaking directly to the public (which he hasn't) instead of adding all these subtlies in his movies. Chicken?
I'm sounding a bit harsh, but overall I enjoyed the movie and shed one or two tears :-) I know I'm a softy
I'd say two thumbs up!!
(See it with your girl, and shed a few tears...thats always a winner)
