Extremely Psychedelic, High-bpm Goa Trance?

I'm not sure how much help TA will be in this regard, since psy/goa gets little attention here, and since minimal psy is so popular these days, but it's worth a shot.

I'm looking for some extremely psychedelic goa tracks, upwards of 160bpm, and perferably with heavy Indian/Hindustani influences. Complex sitar ragas over manic acid lines, that sort of thing. I have no idea where to start, and have encountered a lot of trouble finding productions of such a style. I'm pretty sure it exists, because I've seen it sometimes referenced by washed-up psy veterans, and I'd imagine full-moon bohemians would follow such mind-blowing stuff like a fluoro caravan.

The only thing I know of that resembles what I'm thinking of is Section X - Galaxian, although it doesn't have as stong of a classical Indian flavor as I'd like.

Help!

Not quite sure if it's exactly what you're after, but I'd say check out some older stuff by Pleiadians. Some of the most intense, acid influenced goa out there. Listen to the tune "Maia", should give you a pretty good indication of what their music is like.

Dunno if these fulfill your need for manic hindu ranting, but the rest they should apply to:

Chakra - Brain In The Box
Astral Projection - Mahadeva (not the 99 version)
Dimension 5 - Harmonic Convergeance
Pleiadians - Maia <- as already mentioned, Pleiadians made some of the most intense goa around back then
Shakta - Lepton Head (Deedrah Remix)
Green Nuns Of The Revolution - Conflict
MFG - Process Irreversible (Passenger Remix)
The Delta - Travelling At The Speed Of Thought
Doof - Let's Turn On
Doof - Double Dragons (Crystal Insurance Mix)

I recommend you some of Chi-AD's stuff. Pathfinder should be the perfect tune for you.

Asia 2001's album Amnesia is also really good. Check out the tune Bengali for instance.

RA - To Sirius is also a clssic goa trance album.

also check out Dreamweavers album Lord of Illiusion.
http://www.discogs.com/release/70379
it's rich on indian and eastern influences.

Finally a powerful goa trance CD released last year with energetic tunes.

Sorry be off-topic...but what you (Cobalt) mean for Minimal Psy?

Posted by Cobalt on Dec-24-2005 14:29:

Eep, I realized that 140 is far too slow, More like 160+, sorry.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far.

I've liked some of Chi-AD's productions, particularly Eye Am The I.

Pathfinder is slower than what I'm looking for though, and not really trippy enough.

I really no authority on names when it comes to psytrance; I'm pretty weak at knowing artists in those subgenres.

Though most psytrance I hear is too slow for my taste, and definitely short of what I'd call plain "psychedelic", minimal psytrance is ususally dark, ploddy stuff like Ticon.

Yes, only much faster, darker, and more Indian.

All this makes me wonder if a genre like "hardcore goa" has ever existed. It seems not much of what's being listed is mindfucking enough for what I'm getting at.

I hate feeling ignorant, ugh.

what about Miranda - Rerecorded?
http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/why/why1cd020.html
some really high paced stuff there

and Goa Gil - Karmagedon

dark and evil stuff

'minimal' psy is aka progpsy and good artists include the swedes - vibrasphere, son kite, chakra, ticon, human blue & SBK (i think i have that one right) amongst others. They're mainly layered tracks with the intricacy of many of the good old progressive trance producers (John Graham & slide of cass & slide being good examples) where it isn't just a looped boring beat with nothing going on, and the atmospheric feelings are great.

Full-on psy now ranges from 143-150bpm on the whole, esp the more commercial israeli artists, altho many sound better faster than this.

tbh my recommendations here would be the older goa sounds, as a fair few of the aforementioned tracks have been, for example Chi-Ad and Doof.

E-Rection - Smoke My Dang Along
Bybass Unit - Spectral Collapse
Universal Sound - Third I
Indoor - The Key

Hmmm, perhaps you'll like stuff by UX. At least their music is dark and mindfucking enough. Check out:

Disco Volante - Chameleon (Pixelmorph Mix) (also known as UX - Chameleon or Disco Volante - Chameleon (UX Mix)).

humm...thanks...
dunno in other countries, but here in Brazil the psy scene now is dominated by this minimal psy, they call it "dark prog", cus the olders psytrancers think fullon is dead...
well... I m not more in psytrance nowadays... but I used to like fast stuff with pumping melodies...

Posted by Psy-T on Dec-26-2005 11:39:

Blue Planet Corporation - Overbloody Flood
Dimension 5 - Psychic Influence
Prana - Indigo (Remix)
Hallucinogen - Space Pussy
Innersphere - Infernal Aftershock (Break Beat Mix)
Borris Blenn - Portamento
Prana - Taiyo (Chakra Remix)
Darshan - Psychokinesis

and just throwing in one 'pure' acid trancer in:
Acrid Abeyance - Minimalistic (Commander Tom Remix)

Posted by Laughingfennec on Dec-26-2005 12:36:

You will not find a lot of psy over 160 bpm, and in general they are crap, and not so psychedelic, cheesy if you ask me.
I agree with the recommendation Dimension 5, the album transdimensional : http://www.discogs.com/release/145286
their music is super psychedelic, fast, and full of twisted cyber melodies.
