Satan (eek!) Is Trance Dying?

We have been wrestling with this one on another forum, and as you guys are in the 'IN' crowd wanted to know your thoughts as I am hearing more 'house' type records commercially every day and not much trance - is trance leaving us?

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Dec-29-2005 13:51:

People will say yes, others will say no, then many will simply make crap jokes about how often this thread is repeated. End product? You'll still have to make up your own mind.

Posted by _Ocean_Drive_ on Dec-29-2005 13:52:

Before you get flamed by alot of people, I suggest you use the Search function in the top right corner!

There have been lots of threads about this!

Welcome to TA though

Sushi sadly left us, I am afraid you are next.

in terms of popularity; no. in terms of quality; yes. in the end its mostly subjective but you cant deny the decline in quality when you compare it to the 90's stuff.

Mentalbarter Thanks Dude - didn't realise this is such a hot topic in the past -

I'd disagree. We have a discussion going on in AuTA somewhat similar to this, and it is obvious that in every city in Australia that trance is becoming less popular amongst the general everyday clubbing crowd and house is growing. There are less trance nights in favour for house nights, clubs are turning promoters away because they know they can get bigger crowds with house nights, and there are less viable trance nights due to reducing crowds.

Is trance dying? Probably not.
Is it becoming less popular? I'd say from my observations/experiences yes.
Is this going to lead to the 'second coming' that so many people seem to hope for (less commerciality, higher production quality etc)? God knows

But whatever you do dont post in any of the posts you searched for.

its a strange cycle employed by general internet goons.

New member posts > Told to search by joe elitist > New member searches >
New member asks question in thread he searched for > Joe elitist and his band of elitist men call flame him for doing what they asked "New member" to do...

Welcome to the site btw

Thanks for the heads up dude - its a mine field in here

Posted by Ian on Dec-29-2005 14:15:

ok so back in 1997 maybe, there were many good compilations coming out, stuff like BBE & Brainbug was helping us develop a musical liking & by 1999-2000 this peaked, with the popularity, not only from us who liked the music but those who followed trends as ours was now cool.

5 years later, America is experiencing the same boom, dj's can make more & sell out more by playing to these people who aren't fed up with seeing the same names, stale sounds & the likes. The newer watered down pop-style trance suits their ears and they are now having the same big times as we are. 2 out of every 3 regular new posters probably come from north america or unexposed places, see the Middle Easts rise in site suggestions now as another example. The rest of us, have inevitibly moved on in places, even if our roots remain the same (however there are those who just follow trends on whatevers cool & bash what they used to worship)

TA used to spread from word of mouth when the people met each other each week & was the way they could keep in contact, now as the nights die out, and as our generation (those of us moving into the 20s etc) mature (sometimes in tastes, sometimes just not being able to do the same things due to commitments) our perspectives change on life in general.

what made you post on your first few days in a trance forum that trance is dying?

especially since many of the 250 most popular djs are trance

thats one of way of interpreting its popularity. but tell me how many people you knew that knew of trance at its peak (99) and how many people know of it now?? I can name a hell of alot more people that know of trance today than I could 6 years ago. its become alot more accessible and common now than in its golden years. Dont know about the events first hand but I think its become more commercially successful (which is to blame for the shit tunes I would think).

Been here a week now and as you all had your ear to the ground wondered if there was truth in the murmurings....

Probably a daft thing to do on this site but decided to risk it for a biscuit - sorry if I offended anyone?

I think its the air time on commercial radio - album releases - new ministry albums...MTV Dance favouring House and dance wheras they used to favour trance - that type of thing...

I love trance - its on my MP3 player - CD player - in my car - I eat and breath it - I am a trance addict through and through honestly - But in my opinion the enthusiasm to the genre has reduced considerably over the last year and seems the demand for it has dropped...
