Listening..........

Posted by Rebel Brown on Jan-01-2006 19:34:

Really like the set! The mashup you did for the first track is a really good way of opening the set, and track 7 is another really good example of how well you layer the tracks. All the transitions are solid, I didn't hear any faults or things to nit pick about when I listened to the set earlier.

Now I'm just waiting for another techno set!

Posted by shades_of_gray on Jan-02-2006 11:15:

Yeah this is superb, the layering is quality, and i love your opening.....also some nice tracks in there

one of the best mixes ive heard this year!, alongside Hardwicks essential mix

Posted by A.J. on Jan-02-2006 12:58:

Well, you introduced me to techno, and I have loved all of your recent mixes, so I will definitely be downloading this!

Can't wait to hear how it turned out.

Hey Stu -

I've really enjoyed all of your techno mixes I have downloaded from here (Notice to your Ears, ThreeTechDeckno, etc)...and so I'm going to give this a listen. Your tracklist looks really interesting (Mike Koglin, Kuffdam & Plant, SolarStone!!) - so I will definately have to check this one out. The reviews look really good so far, so I'm sure I won't be disappointed...downloading NOW.

All the best for a wonderful and energetic 2006!!
peace.

-Ward

Thanks guys especially for the comment putting my name in the same sentence as Matt Hardwick

Posted by tdurden on Jan-03-2006 03:29:

I've not seen that LP in ages!

Posted by MoN-SooN on Jan-03-2006 11:25:

totally swept by your mix! I tried to learn while listening, but i couldn't... because I was enjoying the music all hour long Ideal BPM IMHO.

I wasn't a fan of Martin Roth's remix of Eastern Sea, but in your mix it suited perfectly and now i cant stop listening to this track Your rework is way better than original Roth's remix. I love that piano sounds. Did you use ableton or what?

judging by the quality of this mix i'd personally say comparing you to matt would be quite degrading! this is fantastic .. love how set structure is completely thrown out the window in some places giving it an anarchic feel, yet it still flows sublimely and energetically. i especially like track 7, the layering of killa and the moment where pistolwhip kicks in.

this is top drawer stuff... best mixing i think i've ever heard in a trance set. inspiring will definitely be keeping this!

Thanks mate, that's actually one of the tracks that I didn't touch at all - no loops or samples over the top, not edited at all - just there in all its glory, so that's purely Martin's work.

I just used hardware for this - 2x 1210s, 2x CDJ100s and a Denon DN-X1500. I have started playing around with Ableton but haven't even got as far as trying to encorporate it in a mix yet... maybe that's something for a future mix!

and isoterra - dunno what to say apart from lol

really glad people liked this

Downloading now. Enjoyed your Limited Edition mix which I have a question about. The tracks that you mash up and layer are they in key? Is that how you choose which tracks mash-up the best?
I've been really keen(excited actually) to learn about this Key mixing but I'm on holidays and nowhere near my set of dexx and choons to give it a go.

Yeah, they're either in the same key or certain matching keys - for each key there are 3 keys that it will "fit" with, plus another 2 that you can make it fit with if you're careful, although it can vary quite how well they'll go together (but there are ways to judge this before you even try and put the tracks together!).

PM me if you want any pointers on the theory or anything and I'll be more than happy to try and help

King Stu Cox "Whipped Cream"

Every once in a while I bump into an exceptinally well done set and this one is no different. I had a great time listening to your set. Your mixing style also impressed me especially the way you took mashups to anther level. I really wish your set never ended because you left me wanting more and for that I give this excellent mix a 10/10.

This is Very nice and Original Stu.

Why I like formt his themost, it's that I don't know what to expect, your technique it's defnitely awesome, to do all those Mash-ups live and keep everything in sync, I think that take skills.

The only thing I noticed here, it's not that it's wrong, but Wehn you switch from Killa to Proem at 9:17, I think it would be better if you started to fade out killa slowly before the change. Maybe it's a personal thinking, but for me I think that way it would have sounded better.

Just Trying to help out, not to say somethign bad, as eveyrone in here has said that the mix is perfect.

IT's not about being different, IT's about being original, and I feel that you express that in your mixing.
That is very important Stu.

Thanks and keep getting better, I know you will

I enjoyed the mixing although some of them sounded a little rushed and levels a bit rough but the music was a little on the cheesey side for me. Would be great in a club though.

i really enjoyed that although didnt like the chanting sample that was used at the beginning and then again midway through
