Did anyone watch Human Trafficking on CityTv?

It was truly heartbreaking.

Here is some more info on the movie.

quote:

(A two-part mini-series based on the thousands of true cases in the underground Sex Trade) Academy award winner Mira Sorvino plys Kate Morozov, a New York City Police Officer whose investigation into the deaths of a string of young Eastern European woman, leads her to seek an assignment in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement branch of the Department of Homeland Security. Emmy Award Winner Donald Sutherland plays her commanding officer who teams with Kate to expose a billiion dollar sex trafficking ring. Various clues and unsolved crimes lead Kate to the chief suspect, a slick new Russian businessman who uses modeling and dating service agencies as money-laundering fronts for his global prostitution ring. I did. An awesome movie. Although towards the end of the movie it had those cliched Hollywood sentimental scenes (like when they were up on the rooftop ). Crazy stuff.

At the end, what exactly did Helena see though that made her run outside?

If you think the trafficking shown in a movie is bad, have a read about our immigration minister Joe Volpe, who thinks the best approach to this situation is to legalize those illegal workers (yes, it happens in Canada too). If memory serves, he also spearheaded a policy whereby strippers travelling to Canada would have to submit nude pictures before they could be let in.

Does this have to turn into a politics thread?

Posted by DigiNut on Jan-03-2006 05:02:

I hardly think that's partisan politics... why get misty-eyed over a movie when this type of thing is happening in real life?

No shit sherlock, that's why I wanted to bring attention to this movie - so more awareness would be spread.

OK, so why snap at me? I was just responding to someone else's "politics" retort. It's a very political issue that hasn't been brought up on this forum before - does the discussion have to be limited specifically to the movie itself?

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Jan-03-2006 05:07:

I'm not getting misty eyed - the movie wasn't actually sad. I'm just sick of politics. To tell the truth, I just want this election campaign to be over so I can vote Conservative, and hope they win so that Jayx1 will shut up for just a little while.

Anyway, Mira Sorvino is getting too much credit for her acting - the woman who plays Helena appeared a LOT more, and hell, the actresses' name isn't mentioned anywhere. Same with David Sutherland. He acted so little it could be considered a cameo.

i agree with diginut. You wanted to raise awareness in this thread. Politicians are the ones that make ultimately make the changes based on pressure from the public. So it's up to us to vote in the politicians who will listen to our point of view the most.

People here dont realize what other people in other parts of the world do. That politics affects every aspect of our entire lives whether we like it or not. This is why election day is the most important day on the calendar.

Word.

I saw a MovieTelevision clip on her, it's some chick from Montreal. Decent tv movie though.

Yeah Cosmic fur, I would like to see what happens next.

I totally agree with you about the Miro comment.

Coolz, I have heard of this but if it's the same time as "LOST" forget it, I'm watching Lost...

any theories?

Posted by Misanthrope on Jan-05-2006 01:58:

10 minutes

Saw bits and pieces of it tonight. What happened to the cop (Sorvino) after she went undercover as a mail-order bride? I missed the ending.

Anyway, looked like a good movie - wish I had seen it from the beginning.

Although most movies are unrealistic and exagerrated, they do shed some light on what is really happening out there and bring awareness.

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Jan-05-2006 04:54:

I didn't like the ending. Typical American happy ending. I'm so sick of those. Where everything just comes together magically in the last 5 mins. Ugh.

Posted by perpetuous on Jan-05-2006 05:06:

Yeah, the movie itself was relatively lame. But the subject matter was at least provocative.

i didnt get this upset in a long time.

that scene where father takes his daughter in the room and thinking how to save her....

That was sad.... even worse was when he was at the bar earlier and saw his daughter in that video... no wonder he got sick to his stomach - it was his little girl...
