sin city is easily the best of the bunch that i saw.

the "rebellious" teenage kid, or the little girl? choice number one applies for me, while choice number 2 is the regular answer i get from people.

I tend to favor movies with visual style, good acting, believable dialogue, in-depth characterization, and an overall story/meaning that emotionally impacts me and leaves me thinking. With that in consideration, here are my top 10 favorites of the year in no particular order:

Syriana
2046
The Edukators
Grizzly Man
The 40 Year-Old Virgin
King Kong
The Chronicles of Narnia
The Constant Gardener
Millions
Serenity

IMO Syriana, 2046 and The Edukators stand above the others in many respects.
As you can see I'm not a big fan of the typical Hollywood movies coming out these days.
I'm curious as to what movies other like.
Just in case you were wondering my favs from 2004 are City of God, Million Dollar Baby, Garden State, Napoleon Dynamite and Before Sunset.

In random order, my 10 favs:
Batman Begins
Syriana
Match Point
Munich
Sin City
A History of Violence
Crash
Walk The Line
Good Night and Good Luck
Me and You and Eveyone We Know

Some of the worst:
Dukes of Hazzard
Undiscovered
War of the Worlds
Star Wars: Ep 3
Constantine

you had a decent list until you fucked up everything with that piece of childish shit you put in the 1st place.

come to think of it, there were no good movies this year. i enjoyed A History of Violence, Crash, Syriana, laughed my ass off at 40y.o. virgin and The Anchorman (the jokes there were stupid, but i couldn't help myself). kinda liked Saw ii, House of Flying Daggers (i think it was released in us only in 2005), King Kong, the Island and Serenity (the last 3 movies were completely non-thought-provoking, but action in there was good).

the worst movie of 2005 is undoubtedly Star Wars III - a 300-million-dollar 3-hour mind-numbingly dumb and pointless display of current state of Hollywood special effects technologies.
