Vestax VMC - 004 Vs Vestax PCV 275
I ordered today an Vestax PCV-275 for $210, 1 year used, it's supposed to be missing one of the kill knobs, but besides that it's in good condition.
I just noticed I could have get the VMC - 004 for $249 new.
Thsi si my first DJ Equipment, I would like to know if I got scrwed
or is the PCV - 275 have some advantage over the VMC - 004.
I also ordered 2 Pionner CDJ 200, wich I don't regret at all, beacuse I'v ejust heard good stories about this.
I will use the mixer to play mainly trance.
Thank You.
Well, the 275 has a Send/Return. And you can put rotary faders on it if you want.
However, the 004 has curve control, but if you spin Trance you won't even need the crossfader. But, it also has individual channel meters, and an extra channel, to boot.
But it's missing a kill switch? Huh? Are you sure it's not an eq knob? If it's a kill switch, fine, you probably won't use them anyway. If it's a knob, I'm sure you can order a replacement from Vestax.
It's kind of a toss-up. I would just be wary of a used lower-end mixer.
But, then again, I've had a 275 for four years. Although it's my backup now, and doesn't see much (any) use anymore. I loaned it to a friend for a while before he bought my DJM-600, and he liked it a lot. It's nice, simple, and solid, and sounds pretty good to.
I've never used an 004, but it looks pretty good on paper.

ive got a vmc-004 not fancy but the monitor cue knob is wicked.
thumbs up from me
I have a 275 and use a 004 on a regular basis and I would say that youve made the right decision.
IMO the 275 is a much nicer mixer than the 004, not that the 004 isnt a good mixer.

I was going to invest in a 275 for the send and return features, but an owner of one said those features arent all that good even tho the mixer is flawless and the sound from it is amazing
Even still i think im going to invest in the mixer once ive got my efx 500

Nah id not go for the djm 300, it i was just gonna hook it through the line out then pass it through the efx id just stick with my gemini ps 650i mixer, Its lasted 4 years so far with the same faders and sounds amazing from the balanced outputs.
See how things go i suppose

Maybe one of the more experienced lads who's messed with the send and return features on the mixer can post a definite answer to this question.
i have no complaints wiht the loop on my 275. i mean as said before it has everything you need, but not much more. the FX loop has pre/off/post swtiches on each channel. you can cue the fx, and send, return level controls.
i did do the rotary conversion on mine and really enjoy it more with the knobs. the only things that i think this mixer lacks are individual channel meters (but the cue meter works well enough, its just allways peaking when im cueing multiple tracks at a time), a crossfader off switch, and a way to cue your master output in your headphones.
i really love the eq curves and kills, you can do some cool shit just playing with these. and the dual headphone output comes in handy if you ever do a tag team with a friend.
overall this mixer has really solid feel and the sound quality is great for the money. im very happy with mine and will probably keep it until i upgrade to a xone or rane.
as far as the 004 goes, it definitly doesnt have the feel as the 275, feels alot cheaper IMO. the faders are too short for me and i just cant do without a loop. the faders are also very tight and dont feel very smooth to me, but i do like the fact that its 4ch and has the individual chanel meters which the 275 doesnt.
i love the headphone monitoring section on the vmc-004 too. a lot more useful (to me atleast) than the pvc275.
for a bedroom dj that does a lot of his work in the middle of the night. i would recommend the vmc-004 over the pvc275. especially because you can't hear your self mix on the 275. -like vero said there is no way to cue the master into the headphones. actually, there is a way, but you can only hear your fades in on one side only. -this sucks, a lot i might add.
the kill switches are cool... but i still prefer to use the vmc eq.
the thing that really put me off buying a pmc27 earlier this year was the fact that it's really just a 2channel mixer. the middle channel (labeled sub) is almost useless to me, -since the kills have no effect on this channel. on top of that, the eq doesn't cut enough to make up for not being able to use the kill switches.
i could live w/headphone cue limitations... since at the time, i was working nights... so instead of mixing after work, i would just wake up earlier and crank it during the day.
i can live w/being forced to use the crossfader...
but i don't think i could live w/just being stuck to using just two channels (and 2sources) max. therefore, i will NEVER be able to the stuff i could do w/the vmc 004.
