Smiling Frog Monitor Stands

So I got a pair of KRK RP5 active monitors for Christmas, and I love them. The thing is, I haven't been able to find any decent stands for them yet. I have a cat (pretty rowdy), so I'm looking for something with maximum support/stability. I don't want to have to worry about the stands coming down, or the monitors falling , so stands where the monitor just rests on top are out of the question. Does anyone know of any especially stable stands, that will work with small monitors such as the KRK RP5's?

Right now I put my monitors ontop of my old bookshelf speakers every time i want to mix. Its been ok in the interm, but i'd really like to set them up at ear level. I'd be willing to purchase stands that sit on the ground (around 60"), or on my desk(around 24"). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do they have that standard 1 3/8 inch socket hole in the bottom? If so check the tripod stands (a pole on a tripod base) that are used with smaller PA speakers. Maybe overkill for those smaller monitors though. I have a pair I got at Toews Music (they probably have a store in your city) for about $110 Cdn a pair. The really good ones are steel and more expensive, have a crank-up height adjuster. But for speakers under 50 lb the aluminum ones are perfect. They're lightweight & quickly fold up into a compact size, adjustable about 3.5 to 6 feet high.

A cat jumping on top of the speaker would not cause the stand to fall over. Unless it's a really really big cat.

BTW how do the KRKs sound?

Thanks for the reply. They have a pad on the bottom of each monitor, to counter vibrations and that type of thing. I'll take a closer look at home to see if maybe there is a mounting hole underneath that pad... but I doubt it.

So for these aluminum stands, you must have the 3/8" hole to make use of them? hmm othet than that, they sound pretty ideal for my small speakers...

My cat has broken so much stuff, he'd definitely knock one of my monitors off a stand eventually.. unless it was attached to the stand in some way. He's not too big, he just bounces off of everything.

The rp5's are great for mixing. I live in an apartment, and these speakers are plenty loud for me. I can't push them past 1/3 gain at my place because they are too lound. They sound super clean, and the bass response is impressive. I don't produce... but I'd reccomend these monitors to anyone in a similar situation as myself. It's night and day when compared to my old bookshelfs!

I got 2 cats and they are always in my room sleeping on my 1210's lids or on the cover I put over my mixer so when I bought stands for my bookshelves i got hold of some sticky back velcro pads and used them to stop the speakers sliding of the stands cos I just know they are gonna try and jump up onto em some day.. I got my speakers up on my desk now and its spot on.. Sound is so much clearer when at ear level

Any clean item of clothing to hand half the time or my st george flag.. Anything to cover my mixer is better than nothing and the cats seem to see it as a nice comfy perch. I prefer using clothing actually (anything not cotton/wool since these seem to hold dust/crap like no tomomorrow, denim is good material as with nylon/canvassy sorta stuff which is the prob the best). I pad it up a bit so if one of the cats do jump up and sleep on it then then my poor mixer has some cushioning from the lazy fat bastards ... good thing the dog doesnt wanna sleep on it aswell. hes a 5st bulldog!

I've seen pictures of the tripod stands for PA speakers and some include a bracket thing at the top so you can put small speakers there or screw them to the bracket. Or you could screw a small piece of plywood there and just sit your monitors on the wood. Maybe also use the velcro idea or tie the speakers down for safety.
BTW the base takes about a 3x3x3' triangle floor area.

The stores also have these monitor stands but they would get tipped over easier, not a tripod base. The speaker sits on a little shelf which probably has screw holes.

Yeah I should check out monitors too. I've been using PA speakers and also bigger bookshelf stereo speakers and neither one is really good for practicing at home or a small party. If the sound is good it enhances the music and makes it a lot more fun. Someone here was saying a couple of monitors plus a monitor subwoofer is perfect for EDM.

Yeah. You can get some similar stands at best buy or future shop. Then you can just bolt your monitors onto them or you could use some sort of strap. like a moving strap.

I've got the Nexus 10. Good stands. You can fill the middle pipe with sand which I did to stop sound excaping.

I know that IKEA sells adjustable speaker stands.....well, at least in Australia they do.

That might be worth a shot
