Waiting to see Oakie...
as my first time (I'm young and haven't had the chance before, pity).
What can I expect from him? Obviously heard about his EM's, his mixing, or anything like that but... Style, feedback, mixing. What has he become? Would be good not going to see a big amount of crap like Tisto last summer. And if went, know before about it..
Thx in advance men.
78.51% chance it will be the worst set you've heard. Worse than Tiesto.
His older stuff, which it sounds like you're familiar with, is classic. His newer stuff, not so much. For the most part he's either a really big hit, or a tremendous miss.
I saw him twice last year. In April, he threw down one of the most horrible, disgusting sets I've ever seen (think not EQing, barely beatmatching, and literally not mixing at points during his set, including walking out of the DJ booth, sitting on his ass and talking to some random person, letting the record end). In October, however, it was like watching someone totally different. He threw down a very enjoyable set.
It's tough to say whether you should or shouldn't go. I'd say go, because it may be a good set.

Really, one of the most disgusting sets I have ever seen. Trainwrecking, volume up-volume down, not cheering the people (who seemed to ignore this, cocksuckers all of them from start to end), talking with the ones from back of the dj booth (warm-up dj included) HORRIBLE track selection (track of the night was Lyteo, Perfect Silence or Traffic, so great!).
what they said about it being hit or miss, is true. i think a lot of it has to do with what venue oakey is playing at in regards to how seriously he will take mixing that night. either way i think the risk is worth it to go see oakey
Cokenfold sucks !!!! He doesn't care about Djing anymore, i think he still spin just to make some money so he can pay his yayo !
best case, you see a master do his thing.
worst case, you get super drunk and score with the beer goggles.
Ill be seeing him next week so hopefully it will be one of his good sets
yeah you never really know with oakenfold depends on what kind of mood he's in and which club he is spinning at. If you get him on a good night he'll be incredible, if you get him on a bad night it'll suck.
oakenfold is a riddle wrapped in an enigma, shrouded in mystery.
I loooooooovvveee Oakenfold ..
i love his song 'ready set go' ..
and his song 'starry eyed surprise' always makes me laugh, because it reminds me of that coke commercial ... hehe .

I seriously wonder if he knows about people thinking all this stuff...I mean really now, all this oakenfold bashing and still no change..
He knows. However, because even more people will pay big money to just see a celebrity of his stature, he doesn't really care.

| Originally posted by nchs09 ya everyone is right. i saw him new years, i was expecting a shit mix and that is what i got. 2 hours of nothing but anthems. souther sun, traffic etc. and horrible mixing. things would be beatmatched but he woulkd bring a song in half a beat before he was supposed to, and then fix it half mix. save ur money, buy some booz or drugs and stay @ home and listen to his older essential mixes. |
ya that was another thing. he would "mix" and then he would leave the decks, come back "beatmatch" for about 30 seconds, mix and leave again.
Well im going up to Gods on the 21st for him and O'Bir hopefully... should be nice to hear some classics again up loud. O'Bir will do an amazing warm up for him too as per. Bring it on!! If he plays one man with no name track, thats is, i'm in heaven (as DJ Sammy once shitty-sang
)
He came out here in Cali for Nocturnal Wonderland and had a hell of a set that was in 04 though but I was expecting a bad dj from what I had heard but he was wayyyy into the crowd and mixing was on point for sure. But ive also heard bad reviews when my friends saw him like 2 weeks after.
Guess it really depends on his mood just like everyone else says.
He came here to San Salvador on November and his set was basically pathetic. But he did some cheerleading moves when he was spinning
. The worst thing was that he stopped spinning all of a sudden like at 1 and never went to the afterparty. I thought it was just one of his "normal" breaks to talk to someone on the back but after like 5 minutes we all figured out he was gone, Oakenfold is a joke. Good thing was that I saw PvD two days later, it was indeed amazing!!!
Have seen oakenfold since his resident days in cream, i've never once been disapointed with his set. He's taken me places i never thought possible. Granted i've only seen him in the UK, so that may make some difference. His sets, and i've seen/heard alot of them are fantastic. On his day, he, for me is still one of the greatest dj's ever.

i'm going to see him for the first time on the 20th. Not sure what to expect really. Havent heard anything good about him, only bad stuff (mixing/track selection/playing for too long etc.)but I will leave my own judgement until the 21st, rather than judge from what other peeps say
would prefer to put on something from the old oakey and have a house party, as opposed to paying for something that only MIGHT be worth it. I might as well buy an asprin from the dude lurking down on the corner.
when its your time, its your time.
i saw oakenfold for the first time at creamfields last year, his set was rubbish, pvd and ferry blew him away
