Political Debate jan 9

Talk about the debate....

I'm just watching the debate and find it hilarious that martin's saying that harper is raising the taxes on the lowest income earners....when THEY DONT PAY INCOME TAX haha. Martin's tax cut plan does not benifit these lowest income earners at all, yet hes saying it does.. i dont get it?????????

Posted by naillil on Jan-10-2006 02:13:

I started watching but quickly lost interest. I'm tired of hearing them bash each other. It's the first debate I've ever watched on TV and not that impressed.

Posted by Wyndham on Jan-10-2006 02:15:

lol bashing each other? this is light
its actually been a 1/2 decent debate so far.
They're going back and forth with their own stats and its pretty calm

Posted by malek on Jan-10-2006 02:20:

i'm sick and tired of hearing

"The fact is" blablabla.... )(*%&#)(*&%

Posted by naillil on Jan-10-2006 02:29:

Maybe they aren't "bashing" each other... but like I said, this is the first debate I've seen and I'm sure it can get a lot worse. I also meant "bashing" overall, like watching campaign commercials that just talk about why the opposition can't govern the country. But I guess that's how politics goes... I should start paying more attention - I'm trying.

hahah its startin to pick up here
martins gettin a little angry... perrrrfect

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Jan-10-2006 02:32:

The whole thing is a load a crap......everyone is saying a bunch of crap to try and win over the public....yet not one of them has said anything of any interest to me. The only one I find half intelligent there is Layton....but I refuse to vote NDP.

it's like choosing between rat poison and draino.....you know they are both gonna kill you.

I'm an NDP supporter, but I find it really annoying how Layton plays these debates. He sounds like a broken record with "a better choice", "work for families", etc.

I really feel Jack dropped the question on what two items would be required for his party to support the next budget. He just went into the usual "there's a better choice..." Jack is smart guy, but he needs to stop coming across as an advertisement, and more as leader.

yea a couple times layton just jumps into his camera speech about having a better choice, and just forgets the question.. i hate when these guys do that..answer the damn questions, its a debate.

Posted by Matt on Jan-10-2006 02:38:

Oh, and best quote of the night so far comes from Duceppe:

"Martin campaigns like an NDP, but in power, he acts like a Tory"

Posted by milos on Jan-10-2006 02:41:

i enjoy watching harper's half-assed smiles, at all the wrong moments too

I find that Harper just reveals his morality based attitude a bit more and more, each time I listen to him.

very subtle...but when they talked about the swingers club decision re: potentially invoking the notwithstanding clause, you could (IMHO) hear the disapproval in his voice...and he mentioned that "many Canadians were disappointed... (with the decision)", etc.

this is what we can expect with a CPC gov't...positions based upon right wing, conservative, religious values...and what the majority thinks is "right" or "good".

no thank you.

The problem is you will never get a straight answer from any of these guys. I am so up in the air on this election......all the parties are saying the right things at the right time....trying to weed through all the crap is giving me a headache.

What really pisses me off is the Green Party isn't represented in the debate.....more reason for them to be represented the Duceppe.

Posted by Abercrombie on Jan-10-2006 02:41:

Did I just hear that correctly???? Did Harper just say in response to Duceppe.... "What Canadians need is an alternative party so Canadian can choose between corruption and separation".

WTF????????

Posted by Wyndham on Jan-10-2006 02:43:

ahh shit .. i missed that

Harper is the Canadian version of George Bush.....I have been a liberal supporter in the past but I honestly think they need a kick in the ass to get changes made in the party....they need a fresh new leader and they need to clean house. I'm waiting for Harper to give me a reason to vote for him but he just comes off the wrong way....I don't trust anything he says. Personally, I want to see a Conservative Minority Government so that way some changes get made in the Liberal Party......the problem is....I'm concerned that if too many people think this way then we are going to have a Conservative Majority Party....and I would hate to see what the country looks like after Harper gets his George Bush like paws all over it.

"We keep our promises!"
-Paul Martin

yikes.

Posted by malek on Jan-10-2006 03:00:

hahahhaahaha Martin got owned by Duceppe...

they should have a 10 hours debate straight on national unity, pure fun and mayhem.

haha i heard his same closing speech 3 times tonight, he dropped 2 questions and gave that speech instead, plus at the end lol.

Posted by Matt on Jan-10-2006 03:02:

closing statements always sound like ads....tonight was no exception, with the exception of Duceppe's closing statement... which was just weird.

lol oh dear....I missed a few bits of the debate tonight, but I'm sure it was nothing *important*

Posted by Abercrombie on Jan-10-2006 03:04:

closing speaches;

Martin's ... a little empty, but nothing negative said about anyone.
Harper's ... started on the right course being positive, then closed with Liberal corruption
Layton's ... same as his 30-second commercials.
Duceppe's ... "Canadian unity is a Federal corruption" in other words, 'fcuk Canada'.
